If you see something, say something

07-08-2007 00:50

Catchy, isn’t it? It’s the theme line of the New York City, Metropolitan Transit Authority’s advertising campaign that has run from 2002 through 2007. It’s a call to keep our eyes open for “terrorists” and to be the eyes of the law wherever we are, as if there weren’t enough eyes and cameras already.

The slogan runs on bus panels and posters in subway cars. It often shows an abandoned black bag looking ominously at you with the theme line above it. Sometimes there’s a robot on wheels about to snatch the case for detonation. Ah well, fellas, I do see something here, and I’d like to say something.

For a Middle East Free of All Weapons of Mass Destruction

06-08-2007 00:22

On the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, an International Statement for a Middle East Free of All Weapons of Mass Destruction is released which is endorsed by several of the most influential peace, anti-nuclear and community organisations around the world as well as five Nobel Laureates. It demands that Israel join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and dismantle its nuclear arsenal and calls for a peaceful resolution of Iran's nuclear programme exclusively through negotiations and dialogue within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Tancredo Again Calls for Bombing Mecca, Medina

05-08-2007 23:08

Tancredo would have us believe “al-Qaeda,” the database, has nukes and is itching to use them, and thus we should be ready to bomb and destroy religious sites and kill thousands of people, all of them quite innocent of any crime against Tancredo or the United States. Of course, “al-Qaeda,” the legend of scary campfire stories, does not have nukes and will not pull off a terrorist attack, nuclear or otherwise, unless it is politically advantageous for the neocons.

Israel’s Jewish problem in Tehran

04-08-2007 08:50

There is an interesting problem with selling the “Iran as Nazi Germany” line. If Ahmadinejad really is Hitler, ready to commit genocide against Israel’s Jews as soon as he can get his hands on a nuclear weapon, why are some 25,000 Jews living peacefully in Iran and more than reluctant to leave despite repeated enticements from Israel and American Jews?

Public 'Deliberately Misled' Over De Menezes Shooting

03-08-2007 23:34

So the Bliar Regime has found a fall-guy.

But we still do not know who emptied a clip into this electrician's head, or why. Where was he dispatched that morning? Did he witness something he shouldn't have?

This was not the only LIE regarding the Government's ever-shifting 7/7 Conspiracy Theory, which allowed Bliar to seize for himself powers which the courts had denied him for four years.

Antiwar voices aren’t necessarily pro-peace

03-08-2007 19:46

In our America, being antiwar has little correlation with being pro-peace. It seems that much of the antiwar sentiment is more an anti “how the war is being conducted” with little or no moral basis or consideration to the universal concept of peace. It was true during the Vietnam War years and it is true today, as America resolutely pursues its imperial destiny.

Obama Follows the Neocon Mass Murder Script

02-08-2007 19:49

Now Obama wants to bomb them. Of course, this is simply political grandstanding, as the president is not really the decider guy but rather a factotum who takes orders from on-high. If our rulers want to kill “al-Qaeda”—that is to say, dirt farmers and peasants in Pakistan’s Federal Administered Tribal Areas—that is precisely what will happen, no matter if the commander guy is a Republican neocon or a Democrat neolib.

Britain: Recruiting Kids to Kill

Child Soldiers

School Students Against the War  http://www.ssaw.co.uk/ are a vibrant, informed organisation, growing across the U.K.. and have launched a campaign in response: 'Troops Out of Our Schools - Troops Out of Iraq'.

Second round of Iran-US talks: Cheney camp pushes for war

01-08-2007 17:00

The alarming and unanimous passage with 97 votes to zero by the US Congress of an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill drafted by the leading proponent of war with Iran, Sen Lieberman, on 11th July, which accuses Iran of "intolerable acts of hostility towards the US" and demands the US government to take "Immediate action" can be regarded as the prelude to a declaration of war

The Liberator

31-07-2007 23:49

America is uniting the Arabs against Iran so that when Iran is attacked, fearing retaliation from Iran, as they have been made to believe, the Arab states armed with U.S. weapons, will be the foot soldiers that America lacks. Unwilling to enact the draft, and unable to enlist men to fight another illegal war, the United States is arming the Arabs – to be its foot soldiers in a battle with Iran. However, as they are being armed to the teeth, the U.S. is ensuring that the weapons they are sold are far inferior to those received by Israel, that they are only ‘good enough’ for killing other Arabs, and for killing Iranians.

EDO MBM action in Brighton

31-07-2007 17:04

EDO MBM were visited on Sunday as part of the two days of action against the arms trade called for by Disarm DSEi. It was thought their Brighton factory needed to be made secure from those who work there, so D-locks were put on the gates and super glue was applied to the locks. Additionally, it was thought that the building could do with some redecoration and relabelling. So "EDO Kill for $" and "Stop the War Machine" can now be read on the walls.

Apparently others had had the same idea (great minds think alike!) as there was already a D-lock on one of the gates when people got there.

Counter-recruitment Picket on Anti-Arms Day of Action

31-07-2007 12:12

To coincide with the Disarm DSEi call for two days of action against the arms trade stateofemergency picketed the Bloomsbury armed forces recruitment centre, people will be going armed with placards and fliers to give a counter view of what life is like in the army. With the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan raging the chances of being killed and injured have increased dramatically over the past few years. But even if ex-services personnel make it back alive many are still scared for life from their experiences. The Bloomsbury recruitment centre is located in the same building as the Defence Export Services Organisation (DESO), the government's arms sales agency, which ironically markets weapons to many of the countries where British soldiers die.
