Kilburn Total Oil Burma Protest 9th July 2008

12-07-2008 20:06

Three protesters braved the rain on Wednesday 9th July to protest at Totalitarian Oil at Kilburn Total station, 409 Kilburn High Rd, Kilburn, NW6 7QG. For many years French Total Oil has been funding the brutal Burmese junta's oppression of the Burmese people, with hundreds of millions of dollars a year from the Yadana gas pipeline. The Burmese don't benefit from the gas exported to Thailand, instead they have suffered from forced labour and the military camps around the pipeline. The junta spends 50% of Burma's budget on the army and uses foreign currency it earns to buy weapons.

News International threatens Media Lens with legal and police action

10-07-2008 14:44

Following on from the news that News International threatened Media Lens with legal and police action, Media Lens has posted a new alert about the repression. This was in connection with their critical commentary on the bias of the Times over Iran and the nuclear issue. Media Lens, for those who have not encountered their work, are a small (three person) web-based team who analyse British media output, especially at the "liberal" end of the spectrum. Since 2001 they have been publishing free email 'alerts' about mainstream distortion and bias based on Chomsky and Herman's "Propaganda Model" in their book "Manufacturing Consent".

Carnival Against Vivisection! - Saturday 6th Sept

09-07-2008 20:38

Make your stand against the vivisection industry and animal abusers with us at the Carnival Against Vivisection at Sequani Labs on Saturday September 6th it starts at 12 noon meeting opposite the Ledbury Train Station on the grass verge. This protest is in solidarity with Sean Kirtley who was imprisoned by the state for supposedly organising protests against Sequani. Even though he has never broken the law himself at Sequani (and the police agree) he was sent to prison under new SOCPA legislation which shatters the right to organise and protest in a free democracy.
