The meaning of Gaza’s ‘shoah’: Israel plots another Palestinian exodus

10-03-2008 02:43

Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Matan Vilnai’s much publicised remark last week about Gaza facing a “shoah” -- the Hebrew word for the Holocaust -- was widely assumed to be unpleasant hyperbole about the army’s plans for an imminent full-scale invasion of the Strip.

More significantly, however, his comment offers a disturbing indication of the Israeli army’s longer-term strategy towards the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

For greater security-critical behaviour in Europe - A concrete proposal for the resistance movement against the G8 2009 in Italy

Each protest enables us to draw conclusions of how to do things better next time. In the same way, we can draw conclusions from the mobilisation against the G8 summit 2007 in Heiligendamm on how to achieve successful and broad resistance. Apart from three large self-organised protest camps and an international infotour in the months leading up to the summit, there were attempts to have international exchanges and establish networks beyond Germany. The decision was made not to respond to the G8 climate debate but to frame the protests in terms of other self-determined topics the movement was focussing on: migration, antimilitarism and global agriculture.

Looking ahead to the G8 2009 in Italy, this text takes up these points to propose a campaign against the new “European Security Architecture“. We outline some developments in police cooperation on a European level and call for a kind of antirepression work that goes beyond a simple critique and a scandalising police violence, and that is coordinated on a European level. Such political antirepression work would have to take new forms of social control seriously as an integral reference point for radical movements.

REPORT WILL BE PRESENTED IN EUROPE

THE UK HOME OFFICE: "GAY PEOPLE CAN RETURN TO IRAN, IF THEY ARE 'DISCREET'"

In an article published on Friday March 7th 2008, in the The Independent, Simon Hughes, leader of the Liberal Democrats and the party's Shadow Leader in the House of Commons, stated: "The Home Office claims that a gay person can return to Iran and avoid persecution by being "discreet". All advice suggests that in Iran, to be discreet means that you would have to deny your identity. The punishment for giving in to personal feelings might well be nothing less than torture or death".

The same theory had was pointed out by the members of the NNRF (Nottingham and Notts Refugee Forum) years ago: "The Home Office claims that if a gay person is less obvious about being gay or lesbian they won’t attract the attention of their persecutors," writes Richard McCance on the refugees' association's website.

The EveryOne Group, that, since its launch, has promoted, along with the Non-Violent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty, and the Nessuno Tocchi Caino and Certi Diritti associations, a campaign in support of its member Seyed Mehdi Kazemi, is going to present a written deposition to the European Union objecting to the UK Home Office's behaviour towards refugees claiming asylum.

The two winners of the 2008 presidential election: fear and war

09-03-2008 13:22

Without an end to the “terrorism” lie, there will be no end to the “war on terrorism."
Given the intensity with which this lie is being wielded by Clinton, McCain and Obama, and with the Anglo-American empire’s very survival at stake, clearly there will be no end to war, no matter who is the next White House occupant.
