06-08-2009 13:10Lots of coverage appearing online and on tv news of the latest IPCC report into G20 policing, this one in relation to police tactics in dealing with the Climate Camp on Bishopgate and the specific experiences of one woman mostly at the hands of TSG.
The report is available here:
and reprinted below for information purposes.
HMIC has made three immediate recommendations:
- No surprises – Protestors and public should be made aware of
likely police action in order to make informed decisions.

05-08-2009 22:51Public confidence in the police took a knock after the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests in April. As videos of police violence spread like wildfire on YouTube, their actions were roundly condemned by politicians and the media. Things have died down for the moment. With the MPs’ expenses scandal and Westminster going into meltdown police chiefs must have been quietly relieved when the public’s attention shifted elsewhere. Investigations into police misconduct continue at the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). But what exactly does the IPCC do? Is it effective? And who does it serve?

Radio Globo, after its first shutdown at the hands of military soldiers, won a court order to reopen and has broadcasted constantly since June 29. 04-08-2009 17:03The clock is ticking on this coup regime. And on television this morning, one could see the fear in the eyes of the macho generals that try so hard to show a fearless face. Their days are numbered, not because the other countries of the hemisphere and the world reject the coup, but so much more importantly, because the Honduran people are organizing to put a stop to it all by themselves.
The coup generals don't have an end game.
The civil resistance does, and is unanimous in it: The toppling of the coup regime, the reinstatement of the elected government, and a Constitutional Convention to remake their nation in a more authentically democratic form."
04-08-2009 11:55Phil Woolas by coming out and attacking basic democratic rights has just shown what a new 'Blair Govt' will do in Britain, whoever may formally occupy No. 10 Downing Street after any ordinary general election. Ordinary people should be wary of what the Party is plotting
04-08-2009 09:45A 'Structured Debrief' published after a review of policing of the Kingsnorth Climate Camp in 2008 contains some remarkable admissions, such as the use of FIT teams to cause 'disruption' as well as to gain intelligence.
What is the point of protest?
To create change. I would have thought that was obvious; it is the only rational response to the question. So why has so little change happened as a result of protest in the Western world in the last 30 years?
