EYEWITNESS GAZA: Uprooted Lives in Jabbaliya

28-01-2009 00:59

Yesterday saw the first canvas tents go up in the Gaza strip to house internally displaced people. The UN estimates 50,000 people have been made homeless due to the bombing and bulldozing of homes and properties by Israeli occupation forces in Israel's 21 day offensive in the Gaza Strip. The displacement is just meters in the case of many families who don't want to move far from their ancestral land, and have opted to move into tents on the site of their destroyed houses.

The poor are enslaved in American prisons

27-01-2009 23:38

Our justice system is failing day by day, minute by minute. One wrongful conviction is one-too-many, and numbers are escalating well into the tens of thousands. Adequate legal representation is available to those who are able to pay; those who cannot, however, suffer. Consequently, inadequate legal representation mostly leads to an inevitable unjust verdict.

Bristol - Greece solidarity info & events

27-01-2009 11:53

DIY pamphlet available in Bristol
After boiling over in December, the social war in Greece continues to simmer along with daily protests, strikes, occupations and other actions. Having been beaten off the streets in December, the Greek police returned in January with new stocks of more unpleasant tear gas (from either Germany or Israel), and a policy of teargassing and beating even the most non-violent protesters. But still protests continue…

South Wales Anarchists stand in solidarity with the SHAC 7

27-01-2009 10:30

Let's be clear about this judgement: the SHAC 7 have been handed absurdly long jail sentences because they mounted a successful campaign to dent the profits of an industry they believe to be unjust. What NETCU, judge Butterfield et al have sought to do is vilify a legal and peaceful campaign and to ’round up’ its assumed leaders in order to break the back of a successful movement. They have failed!

American Jewish Professor: Israel is committing a holocaust in Gaza

25-01-2009 21:40

I think Israel, as a number of commentators pointed out, is becoming an insane state. And we have to be honest about that. While the rest of the world wants peace, Europe wants peace, the US wants peace, but this state wants war, war and war. In the first week of the massacres, there were reports in the Israeli press that Israel did not want to put all its ground forces in Gaza because it was preparing attacks on Iran. Then there were reports it was planning attacks on Lebanon. It is a lunatic state.
