There will probably be police photographers outside the meeting, don't be intimidated.
You might choose to wear a scarf in this unpredictable weather.
22-08-2007 22:44Politicians across the world are more open in their condemnation of Guantanamo Bay these days and a old friends of America have even said it should be closed down.
Criticism and calls for closure are being made quite openly by British government ministers now that Tony Blair's influence has gone.
But they are more reluctant to acknowledge the existence of another Guantanamo - one in their own backyard ... it is called HMP Long Lartin in England's leafy county of Wiltshire.
22-08-2007 16:21Unfortunately the case records would leave us to doubt it. The
impression we get is that it is an attempt to demonstrate the absurdity
of the situation, that is, that Pegah will not endure any form of persecution
in Ahmadinejad’s Iran and the ruthless Islamic courts!
22-08-2007 15:48It’s a disguised dictatorship, with press freedom, but no freedom for public demonstrations.
22-08-2007 15:09peace campaigner barbara tucker has written an open letter to the mayor which she has copied to various government departments, the police, the prosecution service and media. in it she challenges the legality of the latest harrassment of peace protestors in parliament square (see report on raid at http://indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/08/378707.html)
The case of Pegah Emambakhsh is the umpteenth case of violation of human rights by our governments.
The EveryOne Group, the activists and the politicians who have joined the appeal for her life have obtained a postponement until 28th August. But we must not be deceived, the government is just waiting for public opinion to be distracted by other events in order to force Pegah up the plane steps and send her to her death.. Similar deportations have already taken place, even in recent times, in the United Kingdom and other countries which like to be defined “democratic”. If we abandon Pegah, we will surrender our humanity and “they” will win.
21-08-2007 10:30While most of the world condemn US practices at Guantanamo Bay, the Scottish Prison Service are attempting to stop prisoners even hearing about them!
21-08-2007 08:07Matthew Stillman - Author of the 'terrorist' smears against John Bowden and the Anarchist Black Cross - is discredited.
21-08-2007 07:36A left wing activist, who lives in Valencia, Spain, claims he has been harassed over, the last year. Intelligence agencies are being contacted to inquire if they have been responsible, and a Spanish Judge is being approached to look in to prosecating the conspirators.
20-08-2007 23:29The government of the United Kingdom has anticipated the deportation of Pegah Emambakhsh and her flight towards the death is already set on the 23rd August.
We don't have to allow that Pegah goes up on that airplane.
"If you go over there, I will facilitate your lawful protest" said one of the commanding coppers outside the action that took place at Agrexco on Saturday afternoon.
His idea of a "lawful protest" became clear very quickly as his officers pushed us into a kettle and held us there until people were taken out one by one and searched under Section One of PACE, before being sent on our merry way. FIT photographers were on hand to photograph each individual as they were searched. That 40 campers managed to get off site and to a known target in the middle of the heavily policed area is something else that FIT will have a hard time explaining to the powers that be.

20-08-2007 10:15Pegah Emambakhsh (40) is a lesbian Iranian woman. She risks of beeing sentenced to death by the judges of the Islamic Republic of Iran because of her homosexuality. She took refuge in Sheffied, Great Britain, where she sought political asylum. This right was denied her for unconvincing reasons,
among which the fact that she cannot prove she is a lesbian.
19-08-2007 21:01"The Shi'ite-run Interior Ministry was criticised over the treatment of detainees in 2005 after U.S. forces said they discovered secret cells in which detainees had been tortured."
