London Al Quds Day March Meets Small Protests

At the start of the march at Marble Arch
Around two thousand supporters of Palestine, mainly Muslims, took part in the annual Al Quds Day march and rally in London on Sunday. There were small protests by some Iranian groups and racist abuse from a few the English Defence League and March For England, but no serious incidents. Anarchists picket Serbian Embassy in London, Friday September 11th 2009
A couple of dozen people picketed the Serbian Embassy in London on Friday lunchtime 11th September. Not bad at such short notice. Members of SF and FAU (German IWA Section) were supported by London Anarchist Federation, libertarian students’ group Autonomy & Solidarity and others.

Candle lit vigil for Oxford Six

Six floating candles were set adrift this week in a symbolic act of solidarity with the six students from Western Sahara who were arrested and beaten last month after protesting when the Moroccan authorites refused to allow them to travel to a peace conference in England. Although released, the Oxford Six remain in danger and two of them have subsequently be picked up and tortured by police.

Six anarchists have been arrested in Belgrade following an attack on the Greek Embassy in April. The attack was claimed by a previously unknown group, and was said to be in solidarity with the recent uprising against the Greek state.

Western Sahara campaigners meet Foreign Office officials

A group of campaigners went to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to deliver a letter to David Miliband to demand that the UK government takes swift action to secure the safety of the Oxford Six students. The students were arrested and beaten by Moroccan police whilst on their way to a British Council-sponsored peace workshop.

Letter delivered to Gordon Brown on Western Sahara

To mark the 18th anniversary of the UN ceasefire in Western Sahara, a delegation of campaigners and MP’s will today visit Downing Street to call on Britain to use her role within the UN Security Council to help enforce the terms of the ceasefire agreement and resolve the 34 year Western Sahara conflict. Versions of the letter were sent to the governments of all UN Security Council permanent members.
