Lib Dem conference protester remanded in custody after banner drop

21-09-2011 08:56

The three men remanded in custody for three days over the weekend, after a banner drop at the Liberal Democrat conference, appeared in court on Monday. The men were remanded as their membership of an “organization” showed that they could not be trusted not to cause danger to the public.

At court all three men pleaded not guilty denying entirely that they caused danger to road users. Even the prosecution accepted in court that “no damage or injury was caused.” Two of the men were bailed on the condition that they do not enter Birmingham City Centre but the other one – a 22 year old from Fleet in Hampshire – was refused bail on the grounds of a previous conviction for aggravated trespass, as well as his continuing trial for the peaceful occupation of the Fortnum and Mason shop on March 26th of this year. He has been sent to prison awaiting a review of his bail.

Communique from the Buenos Aires Support Network for Freddy, Marcelo, and Juan

19-09-2011 15:03

We never forget our imprisoned comrades. We don’t mystify our respect for them but neither are we indifferent to their everyday experience. Solidarity is not, as has been demonstrated on several occasions, just a beautiful word or a slogan, but a practice inseparable from our struggle. This can be expressed in many diverse ways, and there are moments when an idea takes shape with forcefulness and continuity. Given the delicate situation (in court and in prison) that faces our comrades Juan Aliste Vega, Marcelo Villarroel Sepúlveda, and Freddy Fuentevilla Saa, who are currently held captive in prisons of the Chilean state, several individuals from Buenos Aires have decided to form a new support network in order to provide updates and disseminate information about their situation, as well as hopefully assisting in their return to the streets.

19-09-2011 03:33

The combination of escalated NATO air bombardments and ground movement of Libyan puppet forces and NATO special forces against Tripoli since 20 August aims to deliver the final blow on the Gaddafi regime.

Commonwealth Heads Meeting in Sri Lanka plan denounced

18-09-2011 12:14

Talk of awarding the next Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting to Sri Lanka, led by the despotic Rajapaksa governement accused of systematic war crimes against scores of civilians at the end of the country's 26-year old civil war in 2009, has been widely denounced.

Meanwhile, why so little BBC coverage on Sri Lanka since the end of the conflict bearing in mind the grotesque barbarity that has occurred in the country, as Channel 4 have so successfully exposed?
