Mobile Protest "Let Aid Experts into Burma" for Cyclone Relief

On May 10th, 10 protesters dressed in black in mourning formed a mobile protest around various London landmarks. They were protesting against the Burma junta's refusal to allow aid experts into Burma for Cyclone relief and also at the junta's disgraceful preoccupation with continuing the rigged referendum [1] on the military biased constitution on May 10th, rather than cyclone relief. 'Freedom To Protest' Demonstration, 18th May, Edinburgh

A peaceful demonstration is planned to assert our right to freely protest without fear. It will be held at 12pm on the 18th of May at Parliament Square, as a response to the campaign of harassment and intimidation which Lothian and Borders Police is directing at peaceful protsters in Edinburgh. Such repression violates human rights and, if it continues, it will stifle popular participation in civil society. The demonstration is also in solidarity with the dozens of working class people who are oppressed by the Edinburgh 'justice' system every day.

In a desperate bid to avoid a PR disaster of catastrophic proportions, the Crown Prosecution Service has wisely decided that prosecuting Pauline Campbell for her last action at HMP Styal would ‘not be in the public interest’. Which is CPSspeak for: ‘Giving a public platform (courtroom) to a bereaved mother, thus enabling her to make hugely embarrassing facts about Styal Prison known to everyone would really piss the government off’. So yet again Pauline is free to continue her campaign of direct action against those institutions which fail in their duty of care to their inmates. Lawyers acting on behalf of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident in Guantánamo, who was rendered to torture in Morocco and in a CIA prison in Afghanistan, have sued the British government for refusing to provide evidence that may assist in his defence at Guantánamo. Burmese Cyclone protest at Burma Embassy "Let Aid Experts In"

Appalled yet hardly surprised at the junta's callous indifference to the deaths of up to 100,000 citizens and 1.5 million more destitute, the Burmese community protested passionately at their embassy on May 9th for aid experts and aid to be allowed into Burma. Whilst getting away as always with giving the international community the run-around, this time playing games over frustrating aid shipments - the brutal junta has been more preoccupied with rigging its military biased constitution referendum for May 10th.

Policing and Protest: Committee Call For Evidence

They specifically cite SOCPA and the prosecution of Maya Evans as an example of 'concerns' that have been 'borne out'. It's a chance to show them what we already know. Indymedia Birmingham hosts Smash EDO's On the Verge

Indymedia Birmingham yesterday hosted SchMovies' new film, On The Verge, which follows the story of the Smash EDO successful campaign. The screening in the Rainbow Warehouse, Digbeth, was the 43rd in the campaign's national tour, which began last March. Unlike previous screenings [ 1 | 2 ], there was no police harassment this time or attempts to suppress the film. With more than 50 people present, the screening and discussions were followed by DJ's, vegan food and beer until midnight.
