After one seriously wet night, followed by one lovely sunny morning, followed by another night of rain- it has been decided, NOT to move the next camping trip one week forward- to this coming weekend (as previously stated) but two weeks forward. The MET - after failing us over the weekend - promises the weather will be more hospitable then.

Ode to IMC UK: keep it going....

IMC UK: media molotov
It was with great consternation that I followed the Indymedia UK saga on the Newswire – the split camps of BeTheMedia and Mayday, and the possible suspension of the site. While I am not a part of any IMC Kollective, and have not followed the in-depth discussions and meetings that have been had about IMC UK’s future, I would like to say a little on the importance of the site, both as a reader and contributor to IMC UK.

London Met Students Occupy to Defend Courses

04-05-2011 19:05

UNISON and UCU are encouraged to learn that as of this lunchtime some
of our students - in particular, Performing Arts students, have
occupied the Graduate Centre at London Met in protest against the
massive cuts to courses proposed by London Met management.

They, like us, believe these massive cuts to our course portfolio -
the loss of Performing Arts, Philosophy, History, Caribbean Studies,
Trade Union Studies, .... will irreparably damage local working class
student education and the very essence of our university.

Bristol: Classics Freeshop and Emporium face eviction

04-05-2011 01:31

classics
After the civil unrest following the raid and evictions on Telepathic Heights, the stakes are clearly raised for all parties for any future eviction.

Meanwhile, three more people will appear in Bristol Magistrates Court this morning, including one charged with "Attempted Murder". It is notable that many of those charged with serious offences have been of 'minors' - i.e. those under the age of 17. It seems the young and naive will bear the brunt of the polices' judicial revenge.

Classix says: "After a prolonged battle in the courts, Classics Freeshop and the Emporium Art Gallery of 35-37 Stokes Croft face eviction anytime from Thursday 5th May.

Update on situation of Rote Flora in Hamburg and squatting actions

02-05-2011 16:41

banner in solidarity with flora and zomia
Last weekend, a bigger demonstration in hamburg took place with 4000 to 6000 people for support of Rote Flora squat and against commercialisation of the city.
The media attention was high, as there had been lots of discussions in the last weeks about the Rote Flora squat and also about gentrification in generell.
Another bigger event was taking place last weekend, as several people squatted a house in the district altona, demanding a social centre "autonomes centrum altona bahnhof (acab)" and staying inside the former building of the fiscal authorities.
