An important ruling is expected early in September from the European Court of Human Rights, regarding whether or not US prisons respect human rights enough for the UK to extradite ‘war on terror’ suspects to the US. Hundreds of supporters of Julian Assange gathered outside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for Julian's first public appearance since taking refuge there and seeking asylum in Ecuador exactly two months ago. Ecuador announced its decision to grant asylum on Thursday, but the British government is petulantly refusing to do what even the most repressive government would do in similar circumstances, namely grant Julian safe passage out of the country.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Minister has said in a press conference that a decision regarding Julian Assange’s asylum application will be announced on Thursday 16 August 2012 at around 1pm UK time. There was an increased police presence including TSG at the Embassy from yesterday evening.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Minister has said in a press conference that a decision regarding Julian Assange’s asylum application will be announced on Thursday 16 August 2012.

There is an increased police presence outside the embassy overnight and support would be appreciated if people can get there now. Otherwise, as soon as you can.
