15-12-2009 16:39Can it be true? Is US President Obama really bringing troops back to serve on US soil? Is he really getting ready for "civil war"?

13-12-2009 13:46I tried to contact Mark Higson the other day only to learn he had died nine years ago. He was just 40, an honourable man. We met soon after he had resigned from the Foreign Office in 1991 and I asked him if the government knew that Hawk fighter-bombers sold to Indonesia were being used against civilians in East Timor.
“Everyone knows,” he said, “except parliament and the public.”
“And the media?”
“The media – the big names – have been invited to King Charles Street (the Foreign Office) and flattered and briefed with lies. They are no trouble.”
As Iraq desk officer at the Foreign Office, he had drafted letters for ministers reassuring MPs and the public that the British Government was not arming Saddam Hussein. “This was a downright lie”, he said. “I couldn’t bear it”.
Ever since hectoring hegemons have existed, ever since oligarchs have existed wielding power from behind the scenes through their 'errand boys', ever since they discovered social engineering, and especially ever since Edward Bernays discovered and employed Public Relations which coincided approximately with the time that Nobel peace prizes started to be awarded, these accolades from the high and mighty serve the oligarchic agendas as needed.
09-12-2009 19:2210 December is Human Rights Day and also marks 25 years of the adoption of the Convention Against Torture (it became law in 1987). Yet torture is still practiced all over the world and supported and/or ignored by other regimes. Join us as we discuss this tragedy of our times
09-12-2009 19:17On Tuesday, December 1, at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, President Barack Obama announced that he would send 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. He also called for 10,000 more NATO troops, which pushes the total U.S.-led forces to nearly 150,000, and he announced plans to step up the war on a number of fronts including (without being specific) in Pakistan. Obama has now tripled the number of U.S. forces in Afghanistan since he took office.

06-12-2009 19:04President Obama has conceded that Guantánamo Bay will NOT close by 22 January 2010, breaking yet another promise and leaving over 200 prisoners in perpetual limbo. Prison conditions have not improved and in the past eight years, there has been only one conviction on a lesser charge. Join as we call for the closure of Guantánamo Bay now...no to arbitrary detention, no to torture, freedom and justice for all...take a long lunch break and come and join us.
06-12-2009 00:37The following three documents indicate that preparation for mass deaths is in place. This is running under the Local and Regional Resilience Forums, which implement Integrated Emergency Management (IEM) the UK equivalent to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) in the US.

04-12-2009 17:50Two of the ‘North West 10’ have won a landmark High Court victory, overturning the government’s decision to withhold bail on secret evidence. Ten Pakistani students were arrested in April in bungled terror raids across the Northwest and two have been locked up ever since.
03-12-2009 23:34With The World Health Organisation calling down Pandemic Level Six in June 2009, the United Nations via the WHO is now dictating Contingency implementation in all 194 Nation signatory’s to the International Health Regulations (IHR), The UK is a signatory nation.
This is being implemented via Regional and Local Resilience Forums.
03-12-2009 12:40In his December 1 speech at West Point announcing the deployment of 30,000 more US troops to Afghanistan, President Barack Obama attempted to justify a major escalation of a deeply unpopular war on the basis of lies and distortions. That he had to resort to such falsifications reflects both the reactionary character of his policy and the fact that it is being imposed in violation of the popular will.

With Besson's threat to make Calais a migrant free zone by
the end of the year always on our minds, we encourage people
to come and do solidarity work.
03-12-2009 08:50On 10 December 1984, 25 years ago, the General Assembly of the UN adopted the text of the Convention Against Torture, banning the use of torture (in writing, it was already illegal) and practices related to it, such as assisting in torture and returning people to countries where they face torture. It became law in 1987, however the use of torture and the involvement of most countries and governments in it, including ours, continues to grow...
