10-07-2008 18:27

The ACPO recently released a strategy with which to tackle "extremism". This was circulated among local authorities and strategic partnerships in order to co-opt their help in delivering it. The strategy seeks to identify, isolate, muffle and divert any protest and concern that is not channelled through the "official" and "normative" streams, and to establish these "extremists" as enemies of democracy. First, they came for the "extremists" ...

News International threatens Media Lens with legal and police action

10-07-2008 14:44

Following on from the news that News International threatened Media Lens with legal and police action, Media Lens has posted a new alert about the repression. This was in connection with their critical commentary on the bias of the Times over Iran and the nuclear issue. Media Lens, for those who have not encountered their work, are a small (three person) web-based team who analyse British media output, especially at the "liberal" end of the spectrum. Since 2001 they have been publishing free email 'alerts' about mainstream distortion and bias based on Chomsky and Herman's "Propaganda Model" in their book "Manufacturing Consent".

Hotel Rwanda: Robin Philpots ok

09-07-2008 02:28

“The genocide in Rwanda was 100 percent the responsibility of the Americans!” Those are not the words of a political leader who has been marginalized like Robert Mugabe or a Fidel Castro. Nor are they the words of a nostalgic African activist bewailing the fall of the Soviet block. Former United Nations Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali made that statement in July 1998, and he repeated it to me in November 2002. People in the White House liked to call Boutros-Ghali “Booboo Ghali”, or “Frenchie”, in preparation for and during his firing from the United Nations conducted by the then United States’ Ambassador to the UN Madeleine Albright, who vetoed his re-election on November 19, 1996.

The Great Rwanda "Genocide Coverup"

08-07-2008 03:01

Just last week, a Spanish Judge issued 40 international warrants for current and former members of Kagame’s government, including senior staff at Rwanda ’s Washington Embassy. The warrants charge Kagame’s clique with war-crimes and crimes against humanity, that may even fit the definition of “genocide.” But, these are not the only international arrest warrants issued for Rwanda’s current leaders.

French Judge Bruguiere (famous for indicting “the Jackal”) has also issued international warrants against nearly a dozen members of Kagame’s inner circle, too. Bruguiere also met with Kofi Annan in late 2006 to personally urge the U.N. Rwanda Tribunal to prosecute Kagame for the assassination of Juvenal Habyarimana, the war-crime that re-ignited the four-year Rwanda War and the massive civilian killings in the war’s final 90-days.
