11-04-2007 15:57BP AGM DEMONSTRATION - THURSDAY 12 APRIL
10.30am, Thursday 12 April 2007
Excel Centre, Docklands (Custom House DLR)
The current imperial slaughter in the Middle East, justified by the "Global War on Terror", that has resulted in at least 600,000 deaths in Iraq, is nothing new — the U.S. Empire has a long and sordid history of genocidal mass murder.
The history of the U.S. imperialism and Empire is the subject of a series of ten monthly seminars from Dr John Marciano, "Empire as a Way of Life". Attached is a recording of the fifth of these seminars and the text upon which it was based. The first 7 of these seminars have taken place and the intention is to have the whole series published on this site; the last 3 will take place between now and June.
This seminar, recorded on 16th January 2007 by the L.A. Sound Posse, runs for 38 minutes and includes the discussion following. It has been made available under a Creative Commons license. If this recording is broadcast please let the L.A. Sound Posse know. This recording was originally made available on the A-Infos Radio Project site.
The following text has been reproduced here with the kind permission of Dr John Marciano and he can be contacted at email@example.com. He introduced this series of seminars in the following way:
A fundamental purpose of our meetings is to understand the systemic nature of the U.S. Empire and the economic and military imperialism that is its lifeblood. The historian William Appleman Williams argues that empire became "a way of life" in the U.S., a "combination of patterns of thought and action that, as it becomes habitual and institutionalized, defines the thrust and character of a culture and society." This "way of life" has convinced many U.S. "Americans" they have a right or "manifest destiny" to impose their political and economic policies upon others.
Dr John Marciano is Professor Emeritus, State University of New York at Cortland, where he taught courses on social and historical foundations of education and class, gender and race.

10-04-2007 23:16For all their apparent grandstanding, the Iranians have been rather astute in defending their legitimate right to a civilian nuclear programme and fuel cycle. By upping the ante every time they come under unreasonable pressure, they have managed to create new facts on the ground. In turn, these facts make it more difficult for Washington to achieve its goals through "peaceful" coercion such as arm-twisting Iran's negotiating partners or imposing sanctions. It is as if, having correctly read America's aggressive military intentions, Iran has decided not to give the Pentagon the luxury of choosing a time for attack best suited to itself. By inducing a premature delivery, Iran hopes the war the U.S. is planning will be stillborn.
09-04-2007 20:46After five years of solitary confinement in a small metal cell, David Hicks pleaded guilty on March 26 to one of the two charges brought against him by US military prosecutors on March 1, to finally get out of the notoriously brutal US military prison at Guantanamo Bay. Hicks’s case has revealed just what a sham the US-led “war on terror” really is.
09-04-2007 20:36“They told us this was one of the world's worst terrorists, and he got the sentence of a drunken driver,” said Ben Wizner, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, referring to David Hicks, a 31-year-old Australian who in a plea bargain with a US military court will serve nine months in prison, largely in Australia. That's after five years at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba without being charged with a crime, without a trial, without a conviction. Under the deal, Hicks agreed not to talk to reporters for one year (a slap in the face of free speech), to forever waive any profit from telling his story (a slap -- mon Dieu! -- in the face of free enterprise), to submit to US interrogation and testify at future US trials or international tribunals (an open invitation to the US government to hound the young man for the rest of his life), to renounce any claims of mistreatment or unlawful detention (a requirement which would be unconstitutional in a civilian US court).
09-04-2007 18:23The Brits really should've quit while they were ahead . . .
Too late now.
07-04-2007 15:51NuLab mass murderer Tony Bliar, the grinning gimp, launched a new YouTube Channel today. Already they have 16 videos up. Not one of them is about Iraq, which is the only issue most voters relate to Labour now.
Now, if I promise to safetly burn down my local Labour party office will someone else hack this piece of shite website for me ?
USAF Lakenheath Demonstration!
WEDNESDAY 18TH APRIL
from 4 p.m. at Gate 1,
on the A 1065,
--to welcome the Vanunu Freedom cyclists on their way to London from Faslane
-- to take part in the annual vigil remembering the bombing of Libya (April 1986) from this base
-- to sustain our protest over the nuclear and cluster bombs at
--to Say ‘Don’t attack Iran’ ( missions could be flown from this US base)
07-04-2007 00:06Here is the full transcript of Captain's Air's interview with Sky news, which confirms that the mission was to spy on Iran, in the context of ongoing coalition war preparations.
06-04-2007 23:59Jundullah members captured in Iran after blowing up a bus with members of the Revolutionary Guard onboard back in February “said they had been trained for the mission at a secret location in Pakistan.” Back in 2003, the CIA established “secret bases” in Pakistan, ostensibly to hunt for the dead Osama bin Laden and his dour pranksters, that is to say patsies and mental deficients.
06-04-2007 17:50The ‘Lakenheath 8’ Pete, Richie, Mell, Lesley G, Lesley A, Margaret, Irene and Emma now have their trial dates for the action they took last October. The trial will take place on the 6th, 10th and 11th of July 2007 at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk courts.
06-04-2007 15:16What were Iran's likely reasons for arresting the 15 British service-people, and who have been the winners and losers in the hostage crisis?
06-04-2007 13:20Imagine coalition leaders recoiling in horror at the prospect of facing the truth that it is they who are the most criminally liable and culpable terrorists in the world today! Former Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan, stated that in order to effectively combat terrorism a universal definition of ‘terrorism’ would be imperative. A ratified definition would eliminate politically motivated, arbitrary definitions made by various groups/States for the principal purpose of servng their own interests. In the absence of a universal definition the legal system and International criminal courts are ‘hamstrung’ or worse, subject to manipulation by powerful (criminal) interests.
05-04-2007 11:19Iran’s release of the 15 British naval personnel captured in the Gulf is the dénouement of a humiliating episode for the Blair government and for British imperialism.
