Will General Petraeus betray us?

23-05-2008 14:47

General David Petraeus
We've all heard of the US 'Defcon' system of war readiness. But what about here in the UK, do we have a similar system or just do what the US tell us to? Come to think of it are we citizen/subjects even allowed to know what defence condition we are at? Is it considered an official secret covered up in the interests of 'National Security'? With the new boy nut case Petraeus in charge of the US Military.......

Zero: an investigation into 9/11 - A Review

21-05-2008 20:27

Gore Vidal

Following is a review of the Italian flim Zero: an investigation into 9/11 which includes interviews with Nafeez Ahmed and Ralph Schoenman. Trailers of the film are available on the official site and there is an unofficial torrent (out of sync) available, it is due out on DVD soon. One paragraph from the following review is worth highlighting:

Zero is an eclectic film, but perhaps it is richer for its variety of viewpoints, some 9/11 Truthers will be dismayed by the opening focus on CD theory, some will be disappointed by the examination of physical anomalies at the Pentagon, some will be discouraged by the inclusion of an examination of the historical roots of "al Qaeda", but for Europeans seeing this information for the first time, they will have to take on this information and research it accordingly, should they see fit to do so.

Clive Stafford Smith: US Holding 27,000 in Secret Overseas Prisons

21-05-2008 09:12

“There is a huge number of [secret prisoners] being held in Iraq, and one of the intriguing aspects of this that doesn’t get much reporting is that the US is bringing people into Iraq from elsewhere to hold them there, simply because that keeps [the media and lawyers] away from the prisoners so they can’t get any sort of legal rights,” reports British attorney Clive Stafford Smith.

Iraqi Squatters hold rally against occupying powers

21-05-2008 00:56

......In the southern governorate of Muthanna, local authorities have recently issued an order to remove all illegal collective settlements within two weeks, regardless of whether the squatting families are internally displaced or host community. In the Al Tanak neighbourhood, this decision will affect dozens of impoverished families who are living in mud houses on public land. According to the report, eviction orders are sometimes opposed by displaced families who feel they simply have no other place to go. In Basra's Jenaina neighbourhood, IOM monitors report that families who were squatting in a former military intelligence building successfully staged a rally to protest against their eviction order........

Daniel Hopsicker
If you haven’t seen all Daniel Hopsicker’s various 911 and related DVD’s then do please have a look. His professional experience has taught him to travel to the scene of the myth creation to do primary research which blows that myth apart. For example in Venice, Florida where the 911 ‘hijackers’ supposedly ‘learned to fly’ Daniel interviewed witnesses who pour scorn on the official version of events for his film 'Mohammed Atta and the Venice Flying Circus.

Why All of Our Efforts Won't Stop an Attack on Iran

20-05-2008 21:05

Now there's no feasible political recourse to stop an attack on Iran. And little time to mobilize mass demonstrations against it. It will come as a thief in the night, presented to the American people as a fait accompli. As the Bush-Cheney cowboys ride off into the sunset, smirkin' and grinnin' and slapping each other's backs, the people will start to pay.

From Berlin to Kehl and Strasbourg: Block NATO!

19-05-2008 11:12

Against the meeting of the “NATO Parlamentarian Assembly” in Berlin
Rally and bicycle parade May 24, 1pm

This year’s annual NATO conference in Bucharest has taken the decision to celebrate NATO’s "60th anniversary" in France and Germany in 2009. The precise date remains unclear, but it will be held in spring 2009 in the border cities of Strasbourg and Kehl. NATO strategists have already stressed the importance of next year’s summit. They have made the proposal to ratify a new strategic concept that includes nuclear first strikes to keep or get access to resources and a civil-military approach to counter-insurgency.

Europe is at war - even if the bombs are falling several thousands of kilometres away. Because of NATO, the US maintains bases for military interventions worldwide. Nuclear weapons are still deployed in Europe. NATO membership implies participation in military interventions all over the world, directly with national forces, indirectly from military bases, or through logistical support for foreign troops.

Like the G8, NATO is an important player for the "Global Security Architecture".

Freedom Rider: America Brings Hell to Somalia

18-05-2008 20:31

Somali Refugees
The U.S. "war on terror" is in fact a war on international law and
civilization, a catch-all category of assaults on the weak. Under the
anti-terror banner, Washington grinds Somalia into the sand, through hi-tech
weaponry and the deployment of Ethiopian surrogates. No more rationale is
offered for murderous aggression in the Horn of Africa than the presence of
people the U.S. calls "Islamists" - a label designed to excuse any and all
American crimes against Muslims. "More than 600,000 Somalis have fled from
their homes and at least 6,000 are dead." The savaging of Somalia is
nonpartisan - Democrats are as bloody-handed as Republicans. "It takes
foolish optimism to think that the willing accomplices to crime will change
their ways when Bush is gone."

Church of Scotland move to urge UK and US against aggression towards Iran

18-05-2008 09:14

The delegates to the Church of Scotland's general assembly gathered on 15 May were urged to support a resolution that calls on Britain and the United States to take no further action that could lead to an invasion of Iran.

"We will strongly urge the British government to do everything in its power to discourage the American government from undertaking any form of military strike against Iran. And if the Americans ignore that advice, then Britain must make clear its strong opposition for such a move" said Morag Mylne, convenor of the Church and Society Council of the Scottish Presbyterian church.
