Dawood Ebrahim.

Vigilant Shield 09: A Cover for Illegal Domestic Operations?

03-12-2008 18:55

Launched by President Bush in 2002 in the aftermath of the September 11,
2001 terrorist attacks, NORTHCOM has been mired in controversy since its
creation. Among its more dubious accomplishments were illegal domestic
spying operations in conjunction with the Pentagon's shadowy Counter
Intelligence Field Activity unit (CIFA) that targeted antiwar activists.

Despite CIFA's shut-down and the alleged dismantling of its TALON
database (now incorporated into the FBI's Guardian Threat Tracking
System), SourceWatch revealed that "in accordance with intelligence
oversight requirements, the DoD will maintain a record copy of the collected
data." One can't help but wonder whether that "record copy" of TALON
somehow migrated into a NORTHCOM database.

What Are You Doing About It? 7 Years of Guantánamo

03-12-2008 17:35

The LGC is currently putting together its actions for January 2009 to mark the seventh anniversary of Guantánamo Bay opening up. It’s a real shame that it has come to this: that seven years later, Guantánamo Bay and other secret, illegal jails where people are held arbitrarily (imagine being locked up in a dark, narrow box for years on end with no end in sight…) and subjected to horrific psychological and physical torture are still up and running. What does it say about the state of the world and humanity in our day and our age? As the world moves towards celebrating sixty years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December this year, will they be celebrating at Guantánamo Bay, Bagram, Abu Ghraib and elsewhere?

India's 9/11. Who was Behind the Mumbai Attacks?

01-12-2008 17:40

The Mumbai terror attacks were part of a carefully planned and coordinated
operation involving several teams of experienced and trained gunmen.

The operation has the fingerprints of a paramilitary-intelligence operation.
According to a Russian counter terrorist expert, the Mumbai terrorists "used
the same tactics that Chechen field militants employed in the Northern
Caucasus attacks where entire towns were terrorized, with homes and
hospitals seized".

Mumbai attacks... keep watching...

28-11-2008 23:55

What scares me most about the Mumbai attacks is the following:

1. They are not over yet.
2. We don't know who did it.
3. At this level of sophistication I would expect the capacity for a "follow-on" in the near future. If the intent of the attack is to put the United States completely out of business it will have to do so quickly.
4. The United States still has enormous military power which might be viewed in some DoD circles now as "Use it or lose it." They too can see the writing on the Imperial wall.
5. The attackers have made no demands.
6. To even publicly breathe that it might be state-sponsored puts us (i.e. all mankind) a hair trigger away from nuclear conflict in any off our theaters tactically and on a MAD basis strategically.
7. The logistics and C3 (Command, Control and Communications) for this looks state-sponsored.
8. This is an absolutely brilliant and potentially fatal blow aimed precisely at the weakest spots we have mapped in "Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil" and at "From The Wilderness".

China and the Congo Wars: AFRICOM. America's New Military Command

27-11-2008 22:56

Just weeks after President George W. Bush signed the Order creating a new US military command dedicated to Africa, AFRICOM, events on the mineral-rich continent have erupted which suggest a major agenda of the incoming Obama Presidency will be for the son of a black Kenyan to focus US resources, military and other, on dealing with the Republic of Congo, the oil-rich Gulf of Guinea, the oil-rich Darfur region of southern Sudan and increasingly the Somali ‘pirate threat’ to sea lanes in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. The legitimate question is whether it is mere coincidence that Africa appears just at this time to become a new geopolitical ‘hot spot’ or whether it has a direct link to the formal creation of AFRICOM.
