Monthly vigil outside US Embassy: In Solidarity with Gary McKinnon

London Guantánamo Campaign | 01.12.2008 22:52 | Repression | Terror War

This month's LGC vigil outside the US Embassy will be an extended two-hour long action in solidarity with the family and friends of Gary McKinnon and others facing extradition to the US under the unfair terms of the Extradition Act 2003

The LGC has held a regular presence outside the US Embassy in London since February 2007. Calling on the American government to shut down Guantánamo Bay and other illegal jails under the "war on terror", to release all the detainees to safe countries and to respect human rights, we have reminded the US government that the whole world is not blind to its human rights abuses.

This month's vigil will be a two-hour extended demonstration from 5-7pm in conjunction with and in solidarity with the friends and family of Gary McKinnon and others who currently face extradition to the US under the 2003 Extradition Act, which allows British nationals to be extradited to the US to face trial for charges there against them without the American government needing to provide prima facie when requesting the extradition. Several dozen British nationals currently face extradition to the US in this way. Mr McKinnon faces charges in the US of attempting to perpetrate "the biggest military computer hack of all time". He faces no charges in the UK and has recently been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.

Fair trials and due process are rights entitled to all under international human rights law.

Come down and join us on your way out for the evening or on your way home...

No to arbitrary detention, no to "disappearances", no to torture! No to the Extradition Act 2003!
