Started as advertised at Buchanan St for 1pm. Fair few folk, but not as many as previous couple of years. No sign of a soundsystem. Good spirits. Cops around the outside, but not /too/ bad.

Space Hijackers Police Victory Party

Cool young cop - real or fake?
The space hijackers had a police victory party at 2pm at the Bank of England. They looked pretty sexy in their plastic hardhats. But their haircuts were nothing like those of the real cops that gathered in small groups all around the area. Lots of cameras around, even a big fluffy professional microphone. Two big cops stood there, filming away, with red and white checkered bands round their hats. I thought: These space hijackers, really made an effort! But no - these two were real. Or so they said.

Autonomous Bloc penned in again at Mayday rally.

Bloc at the start
Police today used common law powers of "preventing a breach of the peace" to exclude the wholly peaceful autonomous bloc from entering Trafalgar Square. Their attempts to spark a confrontation however - including confiscating their sound system - failed.

Pics from the start of the morning critical mass, the trade union march start point and along the route, including the autonomous bloc. The police flanked the autonomous bloc the whole way along the march, before preventing them entering Trafalger Square and steaming into the crowd to pull out a sound system - which was erm, all a bit un-necessary.

Three Mapuche men and one Mapuche woman are now on their 48th day of a hunger strike. Today they have decided to go without fluids. They will die in the next couple of days if their demand is not met. They demand justice.

Mainstream press and the home office say the hungerstrikes of asylum seekers in detention are over. I heard today they are not. This is a time that continuing demonstrations and other shows of solidarity with people in detention makes a real difference. I wrote the article below to explain what has been happening.
