The first part of the march seemed almost anachronistic - red flags, old communist/socialist battle songs, even a young, uniformed party squad marching in formation with a flag-waver in front.
If you went to the side streets, or slightly away from the route, Mayday was invisible. Or only visible through the cop vans in waiting. Shops were open, just another working day.
