'payup' protest at holborn sainsbury's store today

sainsbury's is one of the worst supermaket chains for low pay. it actually pays its poorest staff 75p less than tesco according to 'pay up' activists.
so this afternoon, the second of a series of noise protests briefly closed down the store at holborn (near their head office).
unidentified security guards assaulted protestors and smashed their loud hailer.

This afternoon's actions by Brightoners against the English Defence League proved a valuable lesson in the value of protest. Without the concerted efforts of the hundreds who turned out, the members of EDL would tonight be downing pints of cheap lager in the city's bars. Instead they have been thrown out of town - hopefully for good.

Supreme Court Ruling on Assange Extradition. Report from Solidarity Vigil

Yesterday, 30 May, the Supreme Court handed down its 5-2 majority verdict finding against Julian Assange in his appeal against extradition to Sweden. However, the verdict was far from straightforward and an unprecedented re-opening of the appeal now looks possible. The solidarity vigil at the court was organised by Veterans for Peace UK, London Catholic Worker and other supporters.

Anti-nuclear groups excluded from meeting

Groups and individuals who were know to have anti-nuclear views were excluded from a 'community engagement' event organised by Suffolk Coastal and Suffolk County councils. This left people attending with a one side of the arguement about economic impacts of nuclear new build presented by EdF.

More than a douzen people are currently outside the UKBA offices in Glasgow supporting three people locked on to prevent dawn raids on local families.

The protest and lock-ons have survived 4 hours so far but cutting teams have just begun work.

European activists link up to draw the line against GM - Take the Flour Back

More than 400 growers, bakers and families from across England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Belgium marched against the return of open air GM field testing today. Take the Flour Back linked arms with their European counterparts, notably France’s Volunteer Reapers and walked calmly towards the site, before being stopped by police lines.
