Rossport Solidarity Picket in Reading

On Friday 14th September, Reading Grassroots Action and others from around Reading took part in a picket of a lcoal Shell garage. This picket was made in solidarity with the anti-pipeline/refinery community struggle taking place in Rossport, Ireland.

We protested for about an hour on the forecourt, giving out many leaflets to drivers. The Police arrived just as we left.

The Gatwick No Border Camp forced to change location after police harassment

Cut The Carbon

Well, Christian Aid’s notorious ‘Cut The Carbon’ march made it to Bath on Sunday the 16th, as promised. They rolled in to the Abbey Courtyard around 4.40pm or so, around 20 marchers, and 5 reps from Bath Activist Network went to greet them, along with 4 Bath Greenpeacers plus stall, 3 Bath Quakers, a large local Christian Aid banner and various local dignitaries.

Next To Nowhere - Liverpool's new social centre - opened last night with the political party to end political parties. Over one hundred people danced and chatted long, long, long into the night, raising money for our exciting radical space while they were at it. Palestine Solidarity stall in Birmingham city centre

The Birmingham Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) again did a stall today outside Marks & Spencer on High Street, calling for boycotting Israeli goods and supporting the Palestinians in their struggle for freedom and justice. The weekly stall has been going on since the second Palestinian Intifada in September 2000 and is aimed at raising the British public's awareness of what's really going on in occupied Palestine. Like many others, Marks & Spencer are known to sell Israeli goods produced on stolen Palestinian land.

An Evening With M - Oaxaca Talk At The Sumac

So I made my way to the Sumac Centre last night, where some people from the southern region of Oaxaca in Mexico would be speaking. I'd read quite a few things about what is going on in Oaxaca in this last year. The Oaxacians are trying to get rid off their governer who, after a teacher strike last year, has come down very heavy handedly on any form of dissent in the region. The teacher strike marked the start of what was to become the biggest popular uprising the world has seen in the last 10 years orso, with many dissapearences and deaths still happening under the regime of Federal Police. So I read some stuff on Indymedia and know a couple of people that have visited Oaxaca in the past and were inspired by its community spirit (and food!). Apart from that, I was eager to learn more...
