Protestors Demand Freedom for the Cuban 5

LONDON, Saturday 15 September 2007. Members of Rock around the Blockade, a campaign of the Revolutionary Communist Group, held a lively rally in Trafalgar Square in the centre of London to call for the immediate release of the Cuban 5, prisoners of US imperialism (see  http://www.freethefive.org/whoarethefive.htm for more information about the Cuban 5).

Protesters flew the Cuban flag and held up placards demanding the release of the Cuban Five, an end to the illegal US blockade of Cuba and for terrorist Luis Posada Carriles to be put on trail. Many passers by, including tourists from around the Globe, stopped to listen to speeches and took leaflets about the case of the Five and the example of the Cuban Revolution. The demonstration concluded with protestors marching through the packed square, holding placards that spelt out the words 'Free the Five'.

The British government and media slander the Cuban Revolution because they fear its example. Most British people are sickened by the illegal occupation of Iraq and by British complicity in the torture of prisoners in Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere. At the same time, we are witnessing the gradual destruction of our Health and Education systems through privatisation. Rock around the Blockade informs British people about the gains of the Cuban Revolution, which show that a more humane type of society is possible.
