Green custard was this morning thrown in the face of the Labour governments Business Secretary, Peter Mandelson by Plane Stupid activist Leila Deen. The former Northern Ireland Secretary was accosted moments after stepping out of his limo to attend a so-called 'low-carbon' summit in London. In full view of the assembled TV cameras he got a face full of custard and hurried inside. Leila then explained to the cameras that the action had been over Mandelsons unelected and undemocratic role in granting permission for Heathrows third runway on behalf of the business community.

An occupation is taking place at Prisme Packaging in Dundee. It started at 5pm on Wednesday 4th March after the twelve employees were told their contracts were being immediately terminated without redundancy pay.

On Tuesday 10 March the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights will discuss whether or not to hear Craig Murray's evidence on the UK government's policy of using intelligence from torture. They discussed whether to hear his evidence on 3 March but failed to reach a conclusion. On Saturday 28h February 2009, a special event was hosted at The Common Place social centre in Leeds, UK. Arising from a need to assess the global economic crisis from a radical perspective whilst making links to local affairs, this meeting was arranged by the tentatively named "We Won't Pay For Their Crisis" group. It featured speakers from Leeds, Greece, Iceland and Italy as well as an open discussion, an authentic Greek vegan meal, screening of "The Potentiality of Storming Heaven" and performances from three of Yorkshire's finest DIY bands (original publicity material here).

brian haw assaulted and then arrested this morning in parl square

brian was assaulted by a worker putting up barriers in parliament square this morning. his hand was bleeding after the attack, but rather than arrest the culprit, or even (in case of doubt) both, they've instead arrested brian, supposedly for the theft of a key! solicitors are trying to find his whereabouts.

Jacqui Smith versus Justice Mitting

Last week five men under bail conditions facing deportation back to Algeria and Jordan had their cases heard in SIAC. The judge decided to adjourn and to let the men stay out on bail. Jacqui Smith over ruled the judge and arrested them all that night-and a further hearing the following morning saw them released. How much did that cost in SIAC? Thousands. She had authorised a day in SIAC herself-if it had gone her way with the men's detention-all well and good. But because the judge did not decide as she had hoped-she arrested them anyway.

Police attack on Gaza convoy: Terrorising Solidarity

On 13th February anti-terror powers were used to detain Burnley supporters of the Viva Palestina aid convoy enroute from Britain to Gaza. [1] Police also cordoned off two houses of British Asians during a search, thus portraying them as a threat. An Imam and his wife were subjected to strip searches in their own home.

"Move or the baby gets it", police lies at Plane Stupid action in Scotland

After almost six hours the Plane Stupid Scotland's action at Aberdeen airport ended with the protesters voluntarily unlocking themselves from their blockade. The eleven people, including local residents that this morning breached the airport fence have now been arrested. The protesters were told by police to dismantle their peaceful protest because the taxiway they were secured to was needed by an emergency helicopter. A baby apparently required urgent treatment, and any other approach would cause delays. Obviously the safety of the public was of paramount concern to the activists and so they duly removed themselves....
