Barclays blockaded over arms trade shares

19-12-2014 13:14

Today Smash EDO and Brighton Palestine Action blockaded Barclays Bank for an hour before activists were removed. The action was part of a campaign aimed at forcing the bank to have nothing to do with shares in Elbit Systems, Exelis (EDO MBM's parent company), BAE, Raytheon and other arms companies. It comes a month after a nationwide day of action saw occupations of Barclays in cities across the UK

One person was arrested, who had glued himself to the front doors of the bank. He was dressed as Santa wearing a placard which read 'Santa says you've been a very naughty bank this year'.

Here's the initial press report from the Argus  http://m.theargus.co.uk/news/11678702.Santa_arrested_after_gluing_himself_to_doors_of_Barclays_Bank/

17 Dec: Noise Demo at US Embassy on Chelsea Manning's Birthday

09-12-2014 23:40

previous solidarity event at the US Embassy

On 17th December 2014, Welsh-American whistleblower and prisoner of conscience Chelsea Manning will celebrate her 27th birthday, her fifth while incarcerated by the US government. Today in the news we have had mainstream confirmation of the CIA torture program.

This torture took place in what have become known as CIA 'Black Sites' across the world. Let's not forget that that we only know about this because of whistleblowers like Chelsea Manning, John Kiriakou, Craig Murray and WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange, all of whom made significant sacrifices to get this information to us and have suffered persecution for doing so.

NOISE DEMO for whistleblowers and against torture, 4.30 - 6pm, Wed 17 December, outside the US Embassy, London

The students are back in town

20-11-2014 19:49

Yesterday's student demo (Wednesday 19 November) saw up to 10,000 people on the streets of central London (organisers' estimate), some scuffles with the cops at Parliament Square, and breakaway groups targeting the Business ministry and a few other venues. Earlier, the NUS head office got a new paint job with "Scabs" scrawled across the windows, after the students' union pulled out from backing the demo.
