Mayday Mayday Brighton Smash EDO protest

09-05-2009 13:42

Despite the Brighton’s Argus EDF (energy Daily Newspaper of the Year) editor’s, best efforts in outweighing the balance of positive comments from the many residents who don't want an Arms factory anywhere near their town by two to one. All that all that could be offered in it’s pages by way of a reasonable counter argument against the demonstrators was idiotic twaddle like "Why don't they have a bath and get a life", "Why aren’t they recycling their bottles and cans instead of using them as weapons" from the rudely awakened Mr and Mrs Complacent of Brighton

Update: Sima is still here

08-05-2009 21:54

Thank you to all those who had time to support the campaign to stop Sima Valand's deportation. We are pleased to report that Sima was not deported today for reasons that are still unclear to us. Obviously this is great news but she will still need to fight future deportations and for the right to remain. Please look out for further callouts for support.

Corporate injunction experts?

07-05-2009 23:14

It seems a new firm of corporate solicitors is edging into a patch long occupied by the bumbling Timothy Lawson-Cruttenden of Lawson-Cruttenden and Co. On 5th May, Norton Rose Solicitors organised a workshop for their corporate clients, entitled 'The Limits of Protest', on the pros and cons of injunctions. Norton Rose had apparently acted for Drax in obtaining injunctions against environmental protesters and are now setting themselves up as the new enemies of civil liberty.

Why the police riot? - part 11

06-05-2009 21:49

The TSG facilitating protest at Westminster Cathedral
The British police public order manual is a secret document establishing a paramilitary third force in the UK, under the control of a private company (ACPO) with permission from the home office. It's long overdue that more information about this was in the public domain.

This is part 11 of a series, for parts 1-10 see:
