Brick Lane London E1 Area Manifesto 2006 against the Crossrail hole Bill

04-01-2006 15:06

Part B of the Brick Lane London E1 Area Manifesto 2006 for the scheduled May local council election to the east London borough of Tower Hamlets Council. That Council has been controlled by elements that are pro
Big Business and pro the city of London interests. The result is that a serious assault on the East End of London under the Crossrail hole Bill is due to be made lawful. The best way to stop[ this is to make the local Council representative of the community which needs and deserves fullest support and defence by its 'elected local council'. This manifesto has been drawn up to hell that defence.

Urgent Treesitters Eviction Alert in the South of the Netherlands

04-01-2006 15:02

Sunday December 4th GroenFront! (Dutch EarthFirst!) occupied the Schinveld forest in the SE of the Netherlands to protest agains the intended destruction of 6 hectares of woods. NATO and the Min. of Defense want AWACS radar planes on the nearby Geilenkirchen NATO base, just across the border in Germany, to off with more kerosene in their fuel tanks. The AWACS are being used in the middle east. We have built treehouses and tunnels and expect them to be evicted this Monday Jan. 9th by 700-1000 military and regular police. GroenFront! is calling upon cops and soldiers to refuse work on ethical grounds. Authorities are immensely nervous about the immense support of locals, and have now called a local state of emergency to quell any more protests. As this had led to even more outrage, many people from the town of Schinveld are pledging to come and support or participate in the eviction.

Earthquake delegation. Musafrabad capital of Kashmir.

03-01-2006 20:31

Our hotel.
We arrive in the capital of Kashmir at night. Our guide from the JKLF tells us that this city saw the highest concentration of earthquake deaths with a latest bodycount of over 40,000. One telling sign is that half our hotel (The Sangham) is leveled to the ground with a number of holes punched in the outside of the half that we are staying in. We are told it is safe as it has so far survived the earthquake and its aftershocks. The next morning we get to see the full extent of the devastation outside.

Earthquake delegation. The ruins of Balakot.

03-01-2006 19:17

The town of Balakot.
Balakot is a small town based at the bottom of a large rural valley in North Eastern Pakistan. Its income was moderate - catering mostly as a stop off point for travellers and tourists heading into Kashmir. Many people comment on how it was previously one of the most beautiful towns in the area. One of our delegation studied here as a young man and had planned to spent his honeymoon here in the picturesque surroundings.

It now looks like it has been hit by an atom bomb.

Earthquake delegation. A meeting with the JKLF.

03-01-2006 19:06

Mr Khan
Before heading into the area affected by the earthquake we meet with Amanullah Khan chairman of Jamal Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Most of the region we plan to visit is in Kashmir and local knowledge is essential. The JKLF are a peaceful organization dedicated to gaining independence for Kashmir from India, Pakistan and China all of whom occupy portions of the country. They want a secular independent state that facilitates all the religions and cultures that exist in Kashmir. They have a wide base of support despite being banned from standing in elections. They are not allowed to participate in any ballot due to their refusal to swear allegiance to Pakistan’s military government.
