Urgent: Okpara family due for deportation on Monday 25th October
20-10-2010 07:37
Mildred Okpara and her three young children have been refused asylum and ordered to return to Nigeria next Monday 25th October. The family are at grave risk from the Nigerian separatist group, MASSOB (the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra). Mildred's partner was abducted and murdered by this group, who also attacked her baby son. If she is forced to return to Nigeria she is convinced that she and her children will be targeted and killed by MASSOB who continue to commit atrocities in the region. She is also terrified that her father will find her and insist that his granddaughters undergo female genital mutilation, a practice which is widespread amongst the Igbo community of which the family is a member. Please write to David Blunkett, Theresa May, Nick Clegg and Paul Scriven (details below) to prevent the family's deportation. A sample letter is provided, but please write your own if possible.

The paper reported that on the plane Jimmy was energetically resisting deportation. No, he was energetically resisting the imminence of protracted hunger and poverty; he was resisting an unjust economic order that skewered his country resources away from him to the benefit of western powers.Palestine Today 10 19 2010

18-10-2010 21:22
Wurzles, 2 demos and at the end of a long day…ciderAnimal rights or animal cruelty…whose cider you on?!
On October 16th we visited Noah’s ark zoo farm for another demo. Five activists enjoyed the usual numerous hoots of support. We happily turned away several cars whose inhabitants vowed never to return! One nutter tried to drive half heartedly at the activist leafleting and missed…what a twat! ! Imagine if we drove at zoo staff !
We returned in the evening for a second demo at the farm/zoo/ark/mad house as the Wurzles were playing there to celebrate Anthony Bush’s ( zoo owner ) 500th year of farming…well maybe 50th ! Not many people turned up for the concert and the ten activists were joined by six zoo staff…they didn’t explain why they were there and we didn’t feel like talking to them so we presume the music was that bad that they thought they’d try and hangout with us…yuk! One young lad from the zoo asked us if he could pray for us to which we replyed…”um no ta, you’re ok mate!” or words to that effect. One of the most surreal moments of the campaign came when an activist dressed as a wurzle, complete with wellies, straw hat and farmer’s jacket, had an argument with one of the staff…it was nothing serious but it left you wondering how many times you’re likely to see a scarecrow argue with a creationist! Then we went home and drank cider and laughed!
If you would like to join us for the demo next saturday please get in touch via barc (at) hotmail.co.uk
