After the US government declared war on Afghanistan, hundreds of people were kidnapped by the Northern Alliance and US military forces under "suspicion" of fighting for the Taliban. What was carefully hidden were the leaflets distributed among mainly Northern Alliance fighters and tribal leaders which encouraged them to kidnap anyone they suspected of fighting.. for a $20,000 dollar reward.

Last Friday was the 60th anniversary of Burma gaining independence from Britain, but the Burmese had little to celebrate, being under the rule of a brutal military government. TOTAL petrol station demo in Chester

Raids on activists prior to G8 ruled illegal by German Constitutional Court

The highest court in Germany has ruled that the raids earlier this year just before the G8 on activists in Germany in several federal countries by different police forces were illegal.
The raids were conducted using anti-terrorist legislation initially introduced to fight terrorism (or armed struggle if you wish) from the left in the 70ies.

24C3 - Demonstration against data retention

There´s a new law for data retention in Germany. It passed all hurdles and will come into effect starting from the 1st January 2008. The connection meta data (phone, cell phone, internet) of all citizen of Germany will be stored for six month then. A law suit against this law will be started soon. The AK Vorratsdatenspeicherung organized a demonstration that took place here in Berlin starting in front of the congress center to protest against this and similar laws. There will be more demonstration in the near future.

First day of the Women´s Gathering in La Garrucha

Since 1994, the Zapatista's have placed women's rights and participation at the centre of their social and health agenda, including the promotion of sexual and reproductive rights. Today the Zapatistas run a health system autonomous from the Mexican government that includes community educators, trained midwives, community clinics and an autonomous hospital. This transformation is promoting women's sexual and reproductive health and rights.
