Protest Against Destruction of Calais 'Jungles' 20th June, pics and report

Following a call from No Borders groups in London and Brighton a group of people have demonstrated this morning outside London's French Embassy to protest the repression and planned mass deportations of migrants living around Calais, France.

Iloba Family: Hopeful smiles from behind the barbed wire fence
From behind the 20ft walls of Yarl’s Wood immigration detention centre, there is not much view of the outside world. For the Iloba family who, after five years in the UK, were bundled into the back of a van to be deported, there is also little to view for the future. Betty Iloba and her children, Toby (18), Saskia (17), and Emmanuel (14), spoke of how they were sent to the UK by their policeman father, who feared for their lives, just months before he himself was killed.

Social Centre evicted

Last night a large number of police with several vehicles, riot gear, and dogs evicted the newly opened social centre, on the pretext of fire safety. There were no arrests. The public meeting called for tonight will go ahead in a reduced format outside the bingo hall.

Preparing for the event
City pigs are truly back with their snouts in the trough, and to celebrate this, Chris Knight and others from the 'The Government of the Dead' came into the heart of the City of London tonight for a 'Bonuses are Back Pig Party', wearing pig masks and setting up a trough with 'Pig Pounds' mixed with pig swill and getting snouts down and bottoms up to wallow in it. The threat from Scottish Coal is growing, just as the front line against new coal looks forward to its one month birthday (complete with picnic). So get down here! Its now or never! The Mainshill Solidarity Camp is extremely grateful for the continuing support from the local community and will be celebrating its one month birthday on Sunday 19th July with a community picnic at 3pm to which everyone is welcome.
