Policing with "dignity" in Calais

11-08-2009 14:33

Calais Palestinian 'jungle'
As Immigration Minister Besson announced last night that he would provide free showers to migrants (four of them for 120-1800 people) as a measure to treat the scabies epidemic (showers do not treat scabies, which he knows being a former doctor) and demanding that the local authority support this work for "as long as it takes" (the same local authority that in July refused to allow humanitarian associations to set up showers), this photo show the reality of the "dignified" treatment of migrants in Calais that Besson has been infamously quoted as saying.

Intervention prevents police attack - Come help turn the tide in Calais

10-08-2009 13:04

This felt like a real practical prevention of police attempts to hassle, arrest and quite clearly attack migrants in broad daylight in the centre of Calais in front of tourists and Calaisiens. This was made possible by our numbers increasing only slightly today, so come to Calais and continue the work to support migrants here. Berzi Family have left the UK
"I'm afraid we lost the Berzi family. Thanks to the many people who sent faxes and messages of encouragement the family felt people cared about them. Indymedia DNS restored

07-08-2009 17:11

The problems experienced earlier today with the global Indymedia DNS have now been fixed. The outage was due to poor communication on the part of the registrar, who had received a complaint that the whois information for Indymedia was wrong. This is not correct and the DNS was re-instated as soon as the registrar was informed of this.

You can now access all global Indymedia services as normal at their usual location:

[ Global Indymedia | Indymedia Chat (secure connection) | Indymedia Lists | Indymedia Documentation ]
