Yesterday (22nd Aug) hundreds of people gathered at Downing Street to remember Jean Charles de Menezes and demand Justice for him. Members of his family initially showed up but left quickly after being mobbed by the press. The vigil became a spontaneous march which went to Scotland yard for more speeches condemning the murder.

Not something you would like to live next door to. Thus, the group has much community support, and now they're secure in their new home, there is much tidying up to do and this has already begun.

Desperate to reach his targets, the home secretary is abducting Iraqi asyslum seekers to detention centres for return to Iraq. This goes against UNHCR advice that "failed" asylum seekers should not be sent back to Iraq, either forceably or by inducement, because the country is unstable and dangerous.

Well, there I was at 3.30pm this afternoon, travelling down the Nottingham Road, passing the junction of Gregory Boulevard, when four police cars including the heavy mob, and some Armed Responce Units, pulled over a bus. I didn't know what was going on to start with, but like most citizens, am quite concerned to be confronted by guns on the streets.

this afternoon police arrested another five protestors under draconian new legislation that bans any protest not agreed with police in advance. the ban applies to just one or more people in a large exclusion zone around parliament and government buildings. a prospective protestor is supposed to apply to police a week before the demo, and they have the right to ban the protest, or enforce all sorts of restrictions on it without any independent judge, effectively giving them political power over citizens in this area.

Today UK Indymedia is proud to announce the launch of it's campaign to get the brave bobbies that tackled them awarded George Crosses!
