Come to Tasmania! (Rainforest Protection)

10-12-2007 08:04

Angel
Untouched rainforest, 'old-growth' is being logged for paper, woodchips and profits at an alarming rate. Trees turn carbon into oxygen, rainforests are perhaps our greatest ally against global warming and considered by scientists and ecologists alike to be Planet Earth's 'lungs'. In Tasmania you have
people turning the most beautiful land into a temporary desert for profit, ignoring public opinion, changing laws to suit themselves and a line drawn in the sand.

The Death Knell for Nuclear Power

08-12-2007 21:22

THE LEAN GUIDE TO NUCLEAR ENERGY - 1ST EDITION
David Fleming, creator of the concept of Tradeable Energy Quotas and author of the forthcoming and rather wonderful “Lean Logic”, has just published The Lean Guide to Nuclear Energy, which is a thorough demolition of the case for nuclear power being a solution to peak oil. and climate change. You can down load the pdf. for free here  http://www.theleaneconomyconnection.net/downloads.html#Nuclear or you can order printed copies here  http://www.theleaneconomyconnection.net/nuclear/buy.htm . Like much of David’s writing, it patiently yet assertively builds its arguments, backed up by exhaustive research, to build a case against nuclear power that looks pretty much bulletproof to me.

90% Emissions Reductions by 2030? Easy!

08-12-2007 11:18

I was in the middle of writing an article and, you know how things are, you get stuck on an idea and try a different way of looking at things. In this case I wanted to show how moving our electricity consumption to the night time could reduce the overall generating capacity needed, but I also needed to say this in the context of the startling, but real need to reduce Western greenhouse gas emissions by 90% (at least) by 2030.
