Dateline: Party at the Pumps, Shepherd's Bush Green BP Petrol Station, London, UK, 13:00-17:00, Sat 10 Apr 10 – Hundreds of people descend upon the BP petrol station on the south side of Shepherd's Bush Common for a four hour long 'Party at the Pumps'. Dancing to live music from the Rhythms of Resistance samba band and the Green Kite Midnight ceilidh band, plus MP3s piped through the Bicycology sound system, we rocked the forecourt, left peacefully and there were no arrests. But why? This was the London direct action component of an International Day of Action on the Canadian Tar Sands – the single most dirty, toxic and dangerous climate crime atrocity on Earth; and the centrepiece of the 'BP Fortnight of Shame', culminating in a vote at the BP shareholder's AGM in London on Thursday 15 April 2010 to keep BP out of the planet-trashing Canadian Tar Sands (protest details below).

Mainshill Coal Site sabotaged!

In the early hours of this morning machinery at Mainshill open cast site was sabotaged. Two Caterpillar D9T's and a 170 tonne face scrapping earth mover, an O&K RH90, were targeted, both will be inoperable today, and will cost Scottish Coal greatly.

The impacts of coal from Colombia to Scotland - 2 events coming up

Scotland imports 75% of the coal burned in its coal-fired power stations, mostly from Colombia, Russia and South Africa. At Hunterston, the UK’s largest coal port on Scotland’s West Coast, huge ships transport coal from Colombia’s open cast mines to the Clydeport facility. If Ayrshire Power and Peel get their way, soon a new coal-fired power station at Hunterston will be fed on this coal too. Making the links between communities affected by coal in Scotland and Colombia, these two events will feature a speaker involved in solidarity work with communities in Colombia driven off their land to make way for the mines.

BP shut down in Plymouth over Tar Sands oil

On Thursday 8 April, Plymouth Rising Tide and Kernow Anarchist Network blockaded the BP garage in Ridgeway, Plymouth, to highlight the environmental destruction caused by the Tar Sands project. The garage was closed for an hour and two activists who were locked onto petrol pumps were arrested.
