US Media's Left Wing 'Agenda' and the Public's Knowledge of Climate Science

29-04-2008 06:32

You've heard it many times.

--The 'left wing' U.S. media is 'scare-mongering and alarmist' about climate change. They are frightening the people of the U.S. about the affects of global warming without having enough facts and research to back up their statements. --

The statements from researchers 'on the ground' ARE very alarming, no one can dispute that. Here are a few of the past year or so from separate, independent, long-term scientific studies. [Links to the report that these statements are ripped from are provided below.]

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil: Snake Oil!

28-04-2008 10:59

Ever get the feeling you’ve been had? It’s an iconic quote from a punk legend, but as with all great sayings, it can be applied in many different places. This is one example: the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, an industry talking shop if ever there was one and, like the ineffectual light-green environmental groups who “fight” for changes to government policy and send out gleeful press releases whenever a corporation promises to behave itself, the RSPO are actually making things far worse than if the public were left to their own devices.

Grangemouth Workers Strike

27-04-2008 21:50

Unite members at a Grangemouth meeting
Today sees the start of a 48 hour strike by workers at the Ineos oil refinery in Grangemouth, Central Scotland. Members of the Unite Union have staged the walk out in response to the companies discontinuation of their pension scheme, leaving workers with an uncertain future. Grangemouth produces %10 of the UK’s petrol and diesel. The strike will also cause the shutting of the Forties pipe-line, which supplies much of the UK’s fossil-fuels, including the fifth of Britain’s gas.

London Critical Mass 14th Anniversary ride.

27-04-2008 07:35

Police at start of ride.
Early in the ride police blocked the front at traffic lights and prevented movement, even when the lights were green. This is a familiar tactic which is done to compress the ride into as small a space as possible, with officers and a van at the back hassling stragglers to keep up, which slows things down and holds up traffic as well as making cycling difficult.

Stern Even Sterner on Climate Change Forecast

24-04-2008 19:55

You have most likely never heard of the 'Stern Review', a 700 page document that discusses the effect of climate change and global warming on the world economy which was published 18 months ago in Europe, and shook the establishment with its stark predictions of economic havoc that will be the result of climate change around the world.(1) He was widely criticised for painting such a grim picture of the future.

Biofuels protesters disable fuel pumps

18-04-2008 09:13

Agro-fuels protesters disabled the fuel pumps of two BP filling stations early Tuesday morning in opposition to mandatory blending of biofuels into petrol and diesel. Protesters argue that biofuels will worsen climate change, and cause food shortages.
Protesters have taken this action in Edinburgh as part of a national day of action against biofuels - April Biofools day - coinciding with the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation's (RTFO) coming into force, making it a legal requirement to mix 2.5% biofuels into all petrol and diesel.
