Six hours of disruption at LNG terminal

Since November there has been lots of protests around the gas pipeline currently being constructed in Wales, and shortly Englans. Today people paid a visit to sunny pembokeshire to take direct action on one of the root causes of climate change; fossil fuel corporations seeking more profits for their shareholders.

Activists shut down construction of LNG gas terminal in Milford Haven.

Protesters against the continued and unrestrained promotion of fossil fuel projects by the UK government have blockaded the main vehicle access route into the new LNG pipeline terminal near Milford Haven, South Wales. Their aim is to highlight the serious environmental and safety issues surrounding this project, and to call for a more sober approach to the impending energy crisis.

Oxford World Development Movement (WDM) staged a 'Climate Change Challenge' in Cornmarket Street on Saturday to raise awareness of a talk they are holding with Friends of the Earth on Thursday 22nd February 7.30pm, at the Friends' Meeting House in St. Giles. The talk is about the impact of climate change on the developing world, and the speakers will be Ricardo Navarro, an environmental activist from El Salvador, and Martyn Powell, WDM's Campaigns Officer.

Why burn carbon fossil fuels to cart green waste from gardens to a central depot to be composted, then burn more carbon fossil fuels to cart the compost back to the gardens, when it can be composted in situ in the back garden?

A report by Friends of the Earth Australia warns that catastrophic climate change may be inevitable unless dramatic steps are taken to reduce emissions. While the scientific community have finally consensed that human induced climate change is an unequivical reality with the release of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) scientific report on 2 February 2007, the survey of recent scientific research by FOE(Australia) indicates the IPCC climate change models may be very conservative and underestimate feedback effects of climate change.

Next national climate camp organising gathering Feb 17/18 in Leeds

Climate Camp 2007 will take place from August 14th to 21st. Planning is already well under way and we need everyone to get involved and make it happen.
The next national organising gathering will be in Leeds on Sat and Sun Feb 17th/18th. It will be at The Common Place in Leeds city centre and vegan food, accommodation and creche will be provided (please contact us with accommodation, creche or any other needs though so we can plan ahead).
