Why we can't Trust Politicians to tackle Climate Change
On 1 February Rushcliffe Borough Council granted permission to British Geological Survey Keyworth for a 5kw Iskra turbine, with a 5m diameter rotor on a 12 m mast, 300 metres from the nearest house.
Despite the predicted generation of 9,000 kwh and the saving of 4,100kg of CO2 a year, three Lib Deb councillors voted to reject the application. Permission was granted by majority as the Green Party, Labour and even Conservative councillors supported the application.
Lib Dem councillor David Allen objected stating that it was a matter of pain and gain. He said does the "global warming" gain outweigh the noise pain? As it is such a small turbine then it is not going to have much of an effect on global warming.
If we all took this attitude, we would not bother with energy efficient light bulbs or loft insulation! Politicians must start acting if we are to tackle the greatest threat we all face that of climate change.
Please contact the Councillors below who voted against the application and tell them what you think. Remind them of what it states in their manifesto;
"All our policies have a green thread running through them because damage to our environment damages personal health, impoverishes economies and weakens communities. But achieving sustainability cannot be done by one government department alone"
