It is now time to reflect and remain calm. Pegah’s case could become a symbol and help all governments to shed light on this delicate priority which is so essential for the safeguarding of human rights. The horrors of history, genocides and holocausts emerge slowly and develop when indifference reigns or when human rights are forgotten or ignored by the authorities. We are all watchdogs of the respect for human rights and each and every one of us – as Mark Twain wrote – is a patriot and represents his own country when it fights for the observance of what one believes is right, even if he is the last person to see where Truth and Justice lie.

Tinsley House demo - London mobilising meeting, Monday

No deportations to DRC – Birmingham's demo

West Midlands Congolese refugees and their supporters gathered in Victoria square, Birmingham city centre, yesterday (28 August) to celebrate a High Court ruling to halt all deportations to DR Congo pending a 'country guidance' hearing in September, and to protest against the Home Office attempts to 'remove' DRC nationals to the unsafe country. The demo was part of a national day of action called by the Congo Support Project before the High Court decision.

Beatrice sent back from Cameroon because in such a bad state

The latest news I have from Beatrice is that she was deported, but arrived to Cameroon in such a bad state her country won't take her and sent her back to the UK. A friend in Cameroon contacted one of her supporters in the UK. Beatrice is expected to arrive in London today via Paris. I'll post updates when I can, at the moment nobody has been able to communicate with her or knows exactely where or how she is.

Jude Christie
Jude arrived at Gatwick on June 15th 2007 and asked for political asylum as he feared for his life if he went back to his native country, Sri Lanka. He has been in various detention centres for the last 2 months. He has been physically put on planes on three occasions (15th, 24th, and 30th July 2007) to be forcefully removed. Fortunately, on all three occasions his lawyer managed to get the removals stopped.

Italy declares to be available to receive Pegah, granting her asylum. Roberto Malini, Matteo Pegoraro, Dario Picciau and Steed Gamero of the EveryOne Group have yesterday met the agents-general of the United Kingdom at the British Embassy in Italy.
"The First Minister Gordon Brown is paying particular attention to the case of the Iranian refugee", they have assured, “and we're approaching the case with a solution that respects the conventions for the Human Rights".

Help needed: Beatrice taken from hospital to be deported, after suicide bid

Beatrice was taken from a secure psychiatric unit, dumped back in Yarl's Wood and due to be deported to Cameroon on Tuesday 28th August 2007
Our very dear friend and fellow volunteer at Asylum Link Merseyside is again facing deportation, this time set for Tuesday 28th August at 6:40am.
The first attempt to remove Beatrice was cancelled as she made several attempts to kill herself out of fear of her fate her in Cameroon.
