As you may know the Theme for Refugee Week 2012 is 'Spirit.'The theme can be interpreted in the following ways:
· Spirit of the Olympic Games/values - friendship, respect,
courage, determination, equality etc.
· Spirit of perseverance - grit and determination it takes to flee
persecution and rebuild your life.
· Community Spirit - the integration and welcome shared between
refugees and local communities
Unity is very happy to announce its contribution to this year's Refugee
Week which, this year, will run between 18th-24th June
Frontex eyes drones to further war on immigration

Last September the European Parliament granted EU border control agency Frontex the right to purchase its own equipment, such as navy ships and helicopters. Up till then Frontex was depending on EU member states defence and police forces for its equipment. The decision of the European Parliament opened up new profit opportunities for the arms industry.While no orders so far have become public, several military companies started courting Frontex, especially with offers of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones).

Tens of No Borders activists are currently occupying the headquarters of Britain's largest children charity, demanding that it “quits the child detention business”.The latest protest at Barnardo's offices in Barkingside, Essex, started at 1pm in a bid to force the charity to stop providing its services at a new detention facility near Crawley, Sussex, to hold families facing forcible deportation.

Eleven No Borders activists arrested on Tuesday during a detention centre blockade are being held by police for a second night. They are due to appear at Uxbridge magistrates court at 10am this morning, charged with causing 'serious disruption to the life of the community' under Section 14 of the Public Order Act.* Supporters have called for a solidarity demonstration at the court.
