Madrid: Demo against detention centers this saturday

The network which initiated the Ceuta Caravan last november has sent out an appeal for a demo at a detention center in Madrid on 1 April. Their call is worth reading even though most of us won't go to Madrid this weekend - but maybe to Harmondsworth next Saturday?

Sheriff Officers Prevented from Evicting Elderly Asylum Seeker

Sheriff officers arrived at a tower block in Cardonald, Glasgow, Wednesday morning (29th March) expecting to take possession of Mr Bajaj's flat and if necessary "place him out on the landing". They were prevented from doing so because they were met by friends and supporters of the family including Glasgow No Borders activists and Rosie Kane MSP.

Iranians hold protest at Britsh Parliament against all Deportations

This evening Iranian Refugees and Asylum Seekers held a protest outside the British Parliament - to protest against the continued removal by the British goverment of Iranian refugees to Iran and the deportations of other people from around the world who seek asylum in the UK. They were joined in this protest by London Noborders and Rhythms of Resistance samba band.

Hunger Strike and Week of Actions to Stop Anti-Immigrant Bills in USA

Over 50 hunger strikers and organizations have started a seven-day protest in front of the Federal Building in San Francisco on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006. They are calling for fair and just immigration reform. They are denouncing Senator Arlen Specter’s bill that designates all undocumented immigrants as aggravated felons, allows for the indefinite detention of non-citizens, and criminalizes day-labor centers, churches, health clinics and all others who serve, help or work with undocumented immigrants. There will be candlelight vigils at the Federal Building every day through Sunday at 6:00pm.

Three day sit-in outside parliament next week.

Eighty or more Iranian asylum seekers' sit-in will be staging a three days sit-in in London to protest against the Home Office's asylum laws. The protest begins on the 27th and end on the 29th in front of parliament and they will attend everyday from 8am-6pm.

Thousands of asylum seekers who have fled the Islamic regime of Iran and have come to Britain are faced with appalling and inhumane conditions. Many have either been refused asylum and issued removal orders or are in the precarious situation of waiting. An illegal, unsafe and unprotected life has been imposed on many of them.
