Solidarity week against repression in France at June, 9-16

Ivan, Bruno and Damien got arrested on January 19, 2008 on the way to the demonstration against the detention centre of Vincennes (near Paris). They were carrying home made smoke powder and bent nails (to slash tyres). At the police station, they refused the finger print identification and DNA taking. Ivan and Bruno are jailed, Damien is under judiciary control.

Supporters were pleased to hear today that Hicham Yezza won't be deported on Sunday. This doesn't mean the struggle is over, far from it, but he is no longer at risk of imminent removal.

Sarkozy's migrant proposals,Shengen biometrics: French EU presidency & camps

Yesterday the minister for EU affairs of the Spanish state revealed that they were sent last January, a 5 page proposal document by Sarkozy's presidency of France outlining his objectives for new anti-migrant laws to be implemented during the forthcoming French presidency of the EU. The substance of this confidential document has pretty much been explained by me in the last weeks in an article of the quirky humorous "Q&A" series. We may now put the recent anti-migrant laws and Romani purge of Berlusconi in its proper context that which I indicated in the "Q&A". Sarkozy wants biometric Shengen Information System 2, a "integration contract" for migrants and obligatory language lessons.

University of Nottingham Graduate and Employee Facing Imminent Deportation Without Hearing

Hicham Yezza, a popular and active member of the academic community at the University of Nottingham, was recently arrested along with another student. After six days of detention, both were released without charge [1]. Hicham was re-arrested on immigration grounds. He now faces imminent deportation to Algeria wihtout due process [2]. There is widespread concern at the proposed, imminent deportation.

Notts Uni detainee innocent but still facing deportation

Hicham Yezza, a popular, respected and valued former PhD student and current employee of the University of Nottingham faces deportation to Algeria on Sunday 1st June. This follows his unjust arrest under the Terrorism Act 2000 on Wednesday 14th May alongside Rizwaan Sabir and their release without charge six days later.

Demo tomorrow @ Italian Consulate in defence of Roma and migrants

Between the 14th and 15thof May, Roma camps in the Napoli area had to be evacuated and one camp was burned to the ground by mobs with links with the Camorra (Napoli's equivalent of Mafia). Police did not even try to stop the violence but helped the Roma evacuate. Mobs were threatening to lynch them.
In the same week police made nearly 400 arrests of suspected 'illegal' immigrants in raids across the country.
