The demonstration today ( 4th April 2007) outside the Dallas Court Reporting Centre in Salford Quays was unique in the sense that several other nationalities were there to show their solidarity with Sudanese people seeking asylum in the UK and instructed to report to the Home Office authorities day. Darfur is not safe and neither is Khartoum – that is why people are seeking protection in the UK

Protest against anti-Iranian movie in Birmingham

Last night, members of the Political Association of Iran in the West Midlands (PAIRWM) held a protest against the film "300" from 18:30 till 20:00 in front of Cineworld cinema on Broad Street in Birmingham. They gave out leaflets and tried to give cinema goers information about the film's misrepresentations of Persian history.

The demo is in support of Halima Aboubacar and 1-year-old Bailey Jr. who face a deportation appeal hearing.

Demonstrations at Directions Hearing for Country Guidance Tribunal on DR Congo

On 12th April 2007, there will be a "directions hearing" for the Country Guidance tribunal on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This will be a meeting between the judge, the barristers bringing the case and the home office to ensure all parties have been served with the information they need. After this the date for the full hearing will be established.

Nottingham demo against deportations to Congo

On Wednesday March 28th at 1.00 in the Old/New Market Square, people gathered to protest continued deportations to the Congo. After a while the protesters walked across town to the Bridewell Police Station [next to the Magistrates Court] and made their feeling know about government policies.

Yesterday's removals to Darfur stayed

three Darfurians due to be removed yesterday. The
three are now back in Oakington IRC with another
Darfurian who didn't fly on Tuesday night due to
failure of escorts to get him to the airport on

Today in seven UK cities including Nottingham and Leicester, the Congolese community and their supporters held demonstrations to focus attention on government plans to categorise the 'Democratic' Republic of Congo as a 'safe' country to return people who have been fleeing the violence to the UK in search of security. In Nottingham people rallied and marched, highlighting that the Congolese who have already been deported face a very uncertain fate.

At 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning (27th March) Jannatul Chowdhury and her children were suddenly and violently arrested at dawn and taken by van to a cell in Reliance House Water Street where they were held until they were again taken by van to Yarls Wood detention centre where they are currently imprisoned and facing imminent deportation on Sunday April 1st. Such treatment is outrageous in a so-called ‘civilised’ society.
