Jonathan Kazembe is Here to Stay
Immigration: Detention of Children
My Lords, I am grateful to the Minister for that reply, and I welcome her to her new high ministerial office and wish her well for the future. When does she expect to be able to end child detention for immigration purposes? Does she not agree that it would be a signal success for the new Government if there could be an early announcement that ended the practice? Is there any chance of her being able to do that sensibly before the House rises for the Summer Recess?

Deportation travel agents awarded 'deportation profiteer of the year' title

03-06-2010 16:42

Carlson Wagonlit Travel award
A travel agents contracted by the UK Border Agency to arrange the forcible deportation of migrants has been awarded the title of 'Deportation Profiteer of the Year'. [1]

Campaigners from the Stop Deportation Network today presented Carlson Wagonlit Travel with the award at its main offices in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. [2]

In April 2010, CWT won a government contract to book seats on scheduled and chartered flights for immigration detainees due for deportation. The global booking agency, which specialises in business travel management, has been used by the UKBA to do what campaigners described as a "dirty business" since 2004. In the financial year 2004-5, the contract was worth almost £23million. [3]

protest against deportation at Becket House, 01-06-2010

As part of the Week of Action Against the Deportation Machine, a protest was today held at Becket House, one of London's two main immigration reporting centres near London Bridge. The demo was called by No Borders London and supported by other groups, including Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism!, the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees and Stop Deportation. A similar was held earlier in the day at Communications House, London's other main reporting centre in Old Street (see here).

After displaying their banners and placards in the rain, shouting anti-deportation and anti-detention slogans via a loudspeaker and leafleting passers-by, the protesters then walked round the back into the secure compound, where they stayed for a short while among snatch squad vans, until they were 'asked' to leave by the security guards.

The violent fascist EDL have confirmed they plan to inflict Bradford with Britain's deadliest-ever race riot in late August. Despite the government's pledge to end immigration detention of children and families, G4S continues to lock up innocent children in Tinsley House, near Gatwick Airport. Today students from SOAS Detainee Support protested against this abhorrent practice, and confronted chief executive, Nick Buckles, who earns more than £4000 per day, while continuing to be complicit in harming children's health and well-being, while they are in G4S's 'care.'

Most illegal migrants likely to be white

24-05-2010 22:35

If there is uncontrolled immigration, it is because the immigration authorities know that the people wants it. And it's not because of cheap labour, or silly conspiracy theories about undermining British culture. It is because of racial solidarity among white people.
