Yarl's Wood Migrant Solidarity Noise Demo

On Sunday March 14th around 40 people gathered at Yarl's Wood immigration detention centre to show solidarity with the hunger strikers. Drummers and trumpeters turned out in force to let the women inside know of the wide support for their struggle. The demonstrators also made clear their view that detention of migrants is wrong, and the imprisonment of women and children in particular highlights the perversity of border enforcement.

International Support For Sacked UBS Cleaner

Around a hundred protesters came to the United Bank of Switzerland (UBS) in London on Friday evening, to call for the re-instatement of Alberto Durango, sacked in February for his union activities when he approached the contract company Lancaster over their cuts in hours for workers at UBS. 50 face imminent deportation to Iraq

More than fifty men from northern Iraq have been given deportation tickets telling them they will be removed to Erbil in the Kurdistan Regional Government controlled area in northern Iraq. The 50 are currently being held in immigration prisons in Heathrow, Gatwick and Doncaster. They told the detainees that they will be removed at 6pm tomorrow morning (17 March). The tickets state that they will be:

‘removed no sooner than 7 days and no later than 22 days from the date of this notice’.

Detainee Solidarity London is calling for a demo this Saturday at Harmondsworth in solidarity with the 55 detainees on hunger strike since last week.

We are calling a demonstration in solidarity with the women on hunger strike in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre. We join these women in their protest against the detention of migrants. Another Day in Calais

On Friday a group of No Borders Activists went to Calais. We were told that Africa House had been subject to raids by the CRS every night, usually twice for the last week. This is not unusual. Migrants are arrested to have their fingerprints taken as proof that they have been in France, a so- called ‘safe country’ and then released.
