The event was in memory of Uddav Bhandari, the Nepalese man who committed suicide inside the Eagle Building 2 weeks ago. It was also a continued show of support (after Monday's tripod blockade of the Home Office) for two families detained and threatened with deportation.

The Waku family faced being sent to DR Congo but a tsunami of support from their friends at Lourdes Secondary School (some of whom were at the demo) and last-minute legal action mean that most of the family have been released, only Max remaining inside pending a bail hearing. This is despite their MP Ian Davidson being at pains to tell them that everything was OK, he was making sure the case was being dealt with properly, but why hadn't the family come to see him, he does loads of work with asylum seekers, honest. (Never guess there's an election and a Home Office reorganisation coming up would, you?).

The Aksu family remain in detention after being grabbed from the Brand Street Reporting Centre a month ago.

Positive Action in Housing have launched an appeal for funds to send Uddhav Bhandari's body home for a proper funeral in Nepal. His family have no way of raising the money and "Without this appeal, there is every likelihood that Uddhav’s body could be left in a Glasgow morgue indefiintely, similar to an iraqi Kurd whose body was left in a Kent mortuary for three years." They need to raise £4000, follow the link for details.
