The motion below, opposing all immigration controls, was agreed on Sunday, 26 March 2006, at the NUJ Conference.
This ADM notes the great suffering for many thousands of innocent people caused by immigration controls and the fact that this suffering is getting worse and will not end until immigration controls, which were first introduced in the twentieth century, are finally abolished.
It notes also that immigration controls are relatively ineffective in stopping immigration, and that their main effect is to create a highly exploitable and precarious group of people, and that this threatens to undermine not only the rights of migrants and refugees, but also the hard-won rights of the working class as a whole. It believes that the right of people to choose where they live and work is a basic human right.
It instructs the NEC to campaign for a policy of opposing all immigration controls and to promote the right to free movement, together with equal rights for all residents of whatever nationality.
