The 'Hunger strike' by the parents of detained children at Yarl's Wood is still solid this morning. One of the mothers I just spoke to said that none of the parents took their children to breakfast this morning and will probably keep their children away from lunch and supper.Children in detention are the forgotten children, often snatched' before dawn and imprisoned indefinitely. Somewhere this side of the wire are friends, teachers all wondering what has happened to these children and their parents.

Disused Buildings of Birmingham Have No Shortage of Occupants

Jean C. Edwards is a former CIA agent who recently listed Valerie Plame's famous CIA front company Brewster Jennings Associates as her own former employer. Edwards attended at least three conferences with nuclear engineers and scientists from Iran, Pakistan, and other prospective and actual nuclear nations, apparently to spy on them.. The conferences were held in Trieste, Italy, in 1991, 1992, and 1995 while Edwards worked for the CIA. In the lists of attendees below, Edwards is listed as Jean C. Edwards from Jamaica.
Israel's Suffering?
As the latest round of Israeli mass punishment escalates, as the Lebanese people are once again subjected to a taste of the brutality meted out to the Palestinians, and as George Bush and Tony Blair give their tacit approval, the question posed by Robert Fisk in a recent article surely warrants further consideration. 'What does this act of destruction tell us about Israel? Or about ourselves?'What Lead to the Closure and Sale of the Cottage of Content Community Centre?
The boarded up buildings of what was a Community Youth Centre in Sparkbrook have been occupied by a group of activists who along with local people are putting it back into use as a Social Centre, called 'The Cottage Occupied Social Centre'.
They believe their occupation and outreach will compel the Council to return the property to community use. The buildings, however are scheduled to be auctioned off, by Bond and Wolfe today, Wednesday 19th July.

Dunlop StrikeA mass picket was held on Friday 14th July at the gates of B'ham's Wood Lane, Dunlop Motorsport & UK Technical Centre, the seemingly unreported all-out strike, is now entering its third week (Rubberworkers Lodge 411, Convener John Oaks - mobile 07890938492).
A scan of the GMB, BTUC and http://www.newsnow.co.uk/newsfeed sites found no links to any report of the strike action, which is presumably over pay? A trawl through the pages of the B'ham Post and B'ham Mail obtained a similar result.
