Prophylactic action of linseed oil against cyclophosphamid damage

Oral administration of linseed oil (0.1ml/kg b.w. /day) for 20 days prior to an acute dose of cyclophosphamide (75mg/kg) significantly prevented the cyclophosphamide- induced decline in the level of GSH, GSH-Px, alkaline phosphatase in mice blood. The increased activity of acid phosphatase and GSSG was significantly inhibited in linseed oil pre-treated group. Results indicate the prophylactic action of linseed oil against cyclophosphamide-induced oxidative stress.

Tornado News Update reveals Brum City Council’s astounding negligence

What follows is an update on the tornado that ripped through South Birmingham in July 2005. The update reveals gross incompetence on the part of Birmingham City Council and the fact that resident’s concerns about numerous issues were indeed true. Not only will residents bear the cost of the tornado’s damage through higher council tax rates passed onto them by Birmingham City Council, but it looks like the costs will be far higher than expected because of the council’s negligence in handling the situation and it’s failure to secure support from the governments Bellwin Scheme. The report also reveals that Birmingham City Council failed to insure it’s own properties and downplayed an asbestos scare.

Amanda & Thando 39th day of Hunger Strike

On Tuesday in the House of Lords, Lord Avebury raised the issue of Amanda he said: "On Sunday I spoke on the telephone to Miss Amanda Sibiya, a Zimbabwean who has been in Yarl's Wood detention centre since 8 April, and on hunger strike in protest against her detention since the beginning of November. She has lost 10 kilograms and the doctor from the Medical Foundation who examined her last week recommended that she be transferred to hospital, but the authorities declined to do that. A system that holds people in custody for eight months and ignores medical advice to release them is manifestly in need of regular judicial oversight, and we hope that if the Government are not prepared to implement Part 3 of the 1999 Act, they will come up with equivalent safeguards for vulnerable asylum seekers being held in detention indefinitely."
