One Year To Save The Feminist Library
26-02-2007 23:03
For a number of years the Feminist Library has existed in a state of permanent emergency, with a dwindling number of volunteers to take part in running the library, uncertainty about its location and a precarious financial situation. A meeting was held on 24 February to decide on whether to close the library for good. At the meeting a great deal of support was voiced for the library, and it was decided to make one last attempt to save the collection.Howard Government intent on Refoulement of Sri Lankan Asylum Seekers
26-02-2007 21:45
85 Sri Lankan asylum seekers were rescued by the HMAS Success last week and taken to the new high security detention facility on Christmas Island. Pamela Curr, from the Melbourne based Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, said "The Australian government must now abide by its signature to the Convention on Refugees and access these peoples claims fairly. They must not be transported to Nauru so that Australia can avoid giving them access to legal advice and refugee processing."Unlawful bank charges

Chomsky on Iran, Iraq, and the Rest of the World
26-02-2007 12:46
Noam Chomsky is a noted linguist, author, and foreign policy expert. On February 9, Michael Shank interviewed him on the latest developments in U.S. policy toward Iran, Iraq, North Korea, and Venezuela. Along the way, Chomsky also commented on climate change, the World Social Forum, and why international relations are run like the mafia.Democrats reinforce “war on terrorism” lie
26-02-2007 12:37
In another display of true colors, the Democrats are considering legislation to limit the Bush administration’s war powers in Iraq to “fighting Al-Qaeda.”This deception clearly demonstrates, once again, that the Democrats are politically and morally bankrupt -- and every bit as enthusiastic as the Bush administration in spreading the endless “war on terrorism” conquest to every corner of the world.
Eisenhower. Nimitz wait around for 'accidental war'
26-02-2007 11:56
“While the [USS] Eisenhower is ostensibly assisting US operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is the looming threat of Iran that increasingly occupies its attention,” writes Damien McElroy for the UK Telegraph. “Recent tensions between America and Iran over Teheran’s attempts to develop a nuclear weapon have raised the prospect of its third regional war in a decade.”Fabricated charges dropped against East Timor’s former prime minister

When Superpowers go Rogue
26-02-2007 08:19
History records instances of powerful, belligerent nations invading and annexing weaker nations in their bid for world domination and plunder. Various pretexts are utilised to justify these attacks/invasions, the most familiar and infamous are the USS Liberty attack, the Tonkin Gulf incident and more recently the imaginary WMD 'threat'. These examples have one thing in common; they are all orchestrated in order to harness the public as a manageable resource to be used and abused by prevailing powers and to justify an otherwise illegal invasion or military aggression. Nations bent on world domination are extremely predictable; world domination is the folly of a powerful military and inept leadership – history is familiar with a multitude of conquering clowns known to us today as mass murderers.Document says 15 Million Australians planning terrorist attacks

The Israel Lobby and the Left: Uneasy Questions
25-02-2007 20:18
It was 1991 and Noam Chomsky had just finished a lecture in Berkeley on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and was taking questions from the audience. An Arab-American asked him to explain his position regarding the influence of America's Israel lobby. The ‘war on terror’ and the terror of war
25-02-2007 19:10
The casting of the ‘‘war on terrorism’’ as a war fought on behalf of or for civilization against some less-than-civilized other -- terrorists and their cohorts -- is a significant point that cannot be allowed to pass unexamined.Media Alert: Iran in Iraq
25-02-2007 17:49
Media corporations have an awesome ability to fail to learn even the most obvious lessons from the recent past. In discussing allegations made against Iran in 2007, for example, it is often as though Iraq 2002-2003 never happened. The same journalists receiving the same propaganda from the same government sources respond with the same credulity and the same indifference to the human consequences.Killers in the Classroom
25-02-2007 17:37
During a heated debate in a class I teach on social justice, several US Marines who had done tours in Iraq told me that they had "sacrificed" by “serving” in Iraq so that I could enjoy the freedom to teach in the USA. Parroting their master’s slogan about “fighting over there so we don’t have to fight over here”, these students proudly proclaimed that they terrorized and killed defenseless Iraqis. They intimated that their Arab victims are nothing more to them than collateral damage, incidental to their receipt of some money and an education.Evidence of US coercion of IAEA members against Iran revealed
25-02-2007 16:22
Demands for an investigation into coercion of nations by the US during the vote against Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have been growing following the revelations by a former ranking official of the Bush administration acknowledging that India's votes at the IAEA in 2005 and 2006 had been "coerced."Will America Face the Truth About 9/11?
25-02-2007 11:06
If we have the courage to face the fact that our nation has descended into a swamp of corruption and evil, perhaps we can still salvage the future for ourselves and our children. We should draw strength from the knowledge that the 9/11 nightmare, bad as it was, might have been even worse. Are leaders of India, China and Russia ready for a radical breakthrough?
24-02-2007 23:05
In a thinly veiled critique of US global policies and behaviour, the foreign ministers, we are told, emphasised the 'strong commitment' of the three countries to multilateral diplomacy, and exchanged views on 'how international relations are being presently conducted.'Their discussions on developments in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, West Asia, and the Korean peninsula, brought out their common approach on these issues, and a global perspective clearly very different from the US world-view.
