Jaded with the New McCarthyism

02-02-2007 15:17

Without wishing to revive Old Hat, I preferred to wait to see how the hulabaloo over the tactless Jade Goody played out. It seems more sinister than anyone has yet remarked.

Expanding the War to Iran: Another “Urban Legend?”

01-02-2007 21:42

Rejecting the notion that the United States was planning to attack Iran and Syria, White House Spokesman Tony Snow called it a myth or an “urban legend.”

As a journalist who covered Washington in the months leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in March 2003, I recall the many “urban legends” that were circulating at that time.

The Origins of Iran's Nuclear Plants

01-02-2007 16:57

Using the Shah to Promote Nuclear Plants in the 1970's

Although it now seems that the preferred argument to justify expanding the US-UK imperial slaughter in the Middle East to Iran is the alledged support for insurgents in Iraq, this wasn't the case until recently — the alleged Iranian nuclear weapons programme was the justification, and the nuclear plants the planned targets.

All the Prime Ministers men

01-02-2007 13:21

The cabinet are discussing House of Lords reform today, presumably to discuss lowering the membership costs. Not coincidentally, they also chose today to relase news that Tony Blair was again questioned by police in the 'cash for peerages' scandal last Friday. Perhaps Blair should convert to judaism rather than catholicism simply to ensure he has a safe haven to bolt to like Lord Levy has.

The Miracle (of Propaganda) — Refashioning Goliath into David

01-02-2007 11:40

Our delusions of our underdog status would be laughable if they did not have such dire consequences for ourselves and the rest of the world. This David (read, the U.S.) versus Goliath (read, our ostensible enemies) story is told and retold to us to justify the worst crimes against humanity.

Iran Blame Game Shifts into High Gear

01-02-2007 10:32

“The Pentagon is investigating whether an attack on a military compound in Karbala on January 20 was carried out by Iranians or Iranian-trained operatives, a U.S. official told CNN on Tuesday…. Some Iraqis speculate that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps carried out the attack in retaliation for the capture by U.S. forces of five of its members in Irbil, Iraq, on January 11, according to a Time.com article published Tuesday.”

Saddam Hussein’s Last Words: "To the Hell that is Iraq!?"

31-01-2007 17:29

The execution was carried out, as a psychological weapon, to usher in sectarian violence and division throughout the Middle East. The timing also coincided with several announcements and news reports of war plans by the United States and Israel in regards to Syria and Iran. It is no coincidence that shortly after the execution, the U.S. President identified Syria and Iran as the enemies of Iraq and raided an Iranian Consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan.

The Problem With...Being Normal

31-01-2007 09:59

Here is a small confession : I don't consider myself to be normal. I wish I was. I strive to save energy, reduce the damage I do to the planet and work hard to think of solutions to our environmental crisis. That is not normal. If it was, then I could probably carry on living with few cares in the world - except maybe what will happen to my children when they become teenagers!

Reality knocks, nobody Home!

31-01-2007 05:15

All demagogues and most politicians are familiar with the curious phenomenon of the diminished intelligence of a crowd relative to the mean intelligence quotient of all the individuals that comprise it! The level of intelligence of a crowd decreases as the size of the crowd increases. Less known, however, is the diminished ability of the crowd to act without the assistance of an orchestrater or conductor. In the face of the most heinous crimes, today’s populations are conspicuous by their complacency, silence and inability to act. The crowd waits patiently for an appropriate catalyst or activator to trigger an appropriate response.

7/7: Angels & agents of Tavistock Square

30-01-2007 23:52

Daniel 7:7
The agents were conspicuous, diligently adhereing to their tasks, proceeding busily, workman like. Apart from the obvious foot soldiers, (the blokes in blue) there were one or two more covert ones that stuck in my mind. Their cover was blown, not because of what they did, but because of what they didn’t do.........

Lebanon Crisis Fails Mediation, Plays into Israeli Hands

30-01-2007 12:07

By Nicola Nasser*: The crisis in Lebanon is rapidly accumulating the potential to plunge the country in a second civil war, while Israel is closely watching on the sidelines for the right moment to exploit the ensuing security vulnerability and finish the Lebanese divide off by intervening militarily to conclude what it officially describes as the “inconclusive” war last summer.

Suicide Bomber in Eilat: Blame al-Qaeda

30-01-2007 09:01

Just in the nick of time, as the US, Israel, and the “moderate” Mahmoud Abbas were about “to renew long-stalled peace talks,” a suicide bomber attacks a bakery in the Israeli resort town of Eilat.
