Yesterday morning High Court Bailiffs came without warning, broke in and closed us down. We managed to get most of our stuff out (we’re getting pretty good at last minute evacuations https://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/birmingham/2012/07/497606.html) but unfortunately this was the same day as the Spanish miners benefit gig. However we were able to quickly squat a temporary venue for the event which went ahead without any problems and raised over £200 for the miners.Solidarity with the IWW Cleaners!

Today grassroots claimant group, Boycott Workfare are holding a free one day conference in Birmingham about welfare reforms, workfare, the attacks on our benefits system and building claimants support, advice and campaigning networks.Welfare & Benefits Conference in Birmingham – Tues 10th July
On Tuesday 10th July, from 9:30am – 5:30pm, there is a free conference being run by grassroots claimant group, Boycott Workfare http://www.boycottworkfare.org/?p=1192 , about welfare reforms, workfare, the attacks on our benefits system and building claimants support, advice and campaigning networks.This will be held at the Unite the Union Building, Transport House, 211 Broad Street, B15 2AY. The building is wheelchair accessible, and children are welcome though a creche facility is not available.

Last Thursday 28th June the Birmingham Social Centre @ Pebble Mill had to be evacuated after a months worth of rain fell in less than an hour causing the nearby river to burst its banks, completely flooding the squatted social centre knee deep in water. Garden day @ Brum Social Centre – This Saturday 12pm onwards
At the last social centre at the Whit Marley, the garden was great resource. Once it was created it was permanently open the public and is still used now with the kind permission of the landlords.Brum FnB at the Birmingham Social Centre
Birmingham Food not Bombs is now operating out of the Birmingham Social Centre. We start cooking food at 10:00am Sunday at the Social Centre then hand out the food at 13:00 at Holloway Circus roundabout outside the Radison hotel.Birmingham Social Centre is back
Last year a group of squatters and activists in Birmingham took over an unused building in Stirchley and transformed it into the Birmingham Social Centre. It became a hub for local activists and artists bringing together people from across the city and reinvigorating activism in Birmingham.Last week an empty social club on what used to be part of the BBC Pebblemill site was taken over and transformed into the new home of the Birmingham Social Centre.
